What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"Happy and safe."

"It has been a pleasant experience from when I arrived in November 2020 to the present. The staff are friendly and helpful, and we have a good laugh together. There has been several health scares and the nurses have always acted professionally as well as being kind and reassuring. The food is of a high standard, in plenty of it. If I want any in particular then I can order it for the next day."

"All the staff, from the manager to the cleaning staff, have been nothing but helpful and accomodating and they have all built a relationship with my dad that is kind and supportive. We feel welcome here and nothing is too much trouble. It's a real family atmosphere. Food is also plentiful and well cooked and dad has been able to order what he wants, whether day or night! The staff work incredibly hard and any additional support is always available and all staff are open to conversation with me and dad. I'd highly recommend Wykeham House."

"For the last few years my dad has been a resident at Barchester Wykeham House Care Home the staff treated him very well. My dad passed away 1st May 2021. And the staff were fantastic. We will miss going to the home and seeing the staff."

"Lockdown obviously affected many social activities normally held at Wykeham House. The highlight of our lovely English weather occurred on August 7th when the whole of Wykeham House was treated to a Fun Seaside Day, fish and chips, Ice cream cornets, fresh fruit platters plus lager were on the menu. The rear gardens were loving recreated by staff to remind us of our favourite beach time pleasures. Truly memorable."

"Staff are amazing, kind, welcoming and friendly. Understanding and caring. They have given my partner back his dignity, so clean, comfortable and peaceful. His room is lovely. Everyone looking after him are so far amazing - a huge thank you."

"The staff have made such a horrible experience so much nicer. The whole process of moving has been so smooth. The staff have been so welcoming and lovely and made my sister settle in so well. The home feels like a hotel rather than an end of life place and would recommend Wykeham House to anyone who is thinking about it."

"My husband needed nursing care after a stroke and long illness. I looked at many nursing homes but came back to this one. The whole feel of the home is warmth and comfort with superb staff. Everyone we came in contact with was kind and smiley. Thank you Wykeham House - you are the best."

"The care and kindness shown to my father in his end of life care package was outstanding. We could not have wished for a more comfortable place for dad to end his days. The staff are all so dedicated and friendly to both residents and families. Most certainly a comfort to us all at a difficult time. Thank you so much."

"I have come to Wykeham House Care Home for respite care after an operation. The carers have looked after me so well and nothing is too much trouble. They made me feel comfortable and treated me with dignity. The food has been excellent just the right proportions too and a great variety. Congratulations to all the staff and I might not want to leave!."

"Every member of staff play their part in the care for the residents. Not only did they provide outstanding care for my grandmother, they looked after us too, especially on those difficult visits and during her end-of-life care. We are so pleased she spent her last three years of life in such a happy, engaging and caring home."

"The staff are exceptionally helpful, nothing is too much trouble. When you enter the home there's a coffee room, this is all free with fresh cake baked each day in-house. My mum has been here two years now, after being in another home in South London. I'm so pleased with the progress she's made and her happiness, her previous home was dreadful in every way. The staff go the extra mile and the visitors and relatives are all made to feel welcome. This home has two activities ladies that really think outside the box with endless enthusiasm, they do bingo, quizzes and so much more, taking the residents out into the community pantomimes and such like. I joke with Mum that I will move in. The nursing staff and carers are lovely, friendly and approachable. Thank you for all your care."

"Wykeham House is a very good care home that my father is fortunate to be in. The staff are very attentive and supportive both with the residents and family/guests. They will go out of their way to help with special occasions and other needs. The manager is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful making time for you whenever needed. Activities and events are aimed more at the female residents who seem to enjoy them, unfortunately my father does not get involved. The food has been below expectations for a long time now and would be the only real sore point for us."

"Since my parents came to live in Barchester Wykeham House Care Home in February 2024, it has given me and my family a calm and sense they are safe and looked after. Today, a summer bash was lovely, residents and families joining together and having fun. Amazing staff, especially the event organiser and bubbly, smiley lady on reception (at weekends)."

"General visiting of a relative. - The food at the fete was good but I do not feel that a budget of £6.60 a day is sufficient when I need to spend £10 a day on my own food. Good nutritious food is essential. We pay £7500 per month for care."

"I recently had surgery and as I live on my own I didn't want to come home to an empty house so I booked myself into Wykeham House for a week. I found it very comfortable and friendly with a family feel about it. All the carers were excellent and I did have a few minor problems which were dealt with very speedily. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. It took away my anxiety of looking after myself."

"This Christmas was lovely for my father, with much more care from the activities team who knew my father well when choosing gifts. The home looked beautiful with Christmas decorations. The year before was very poor. Since the new activity team has brought a lot to the home through the year who came in March 2023, you can see how much the girls enjoy what happens."

"In my experience, Wycombe House is a warm homely place, the staff are amazing, from the receptionists through to all the care staff, and the activity staff, who are very caring. Also, able to have a laugh and a good chat too! The food always looks nice, got to be the best home around!"

"Mum was in your care from April 2022 and we were very happy with her care there from all the staff and they were very good at making sure someone was with her constantly in her last hours. We, as a family, would not hesitate to recommend Wykeham House."

"My husband, who has Alzheimer's and Lewy Bodies Dementia has been at Wykeham House since May 2022. The staff, from every department, are wonderful with him. He is treated with kindness, love and great respect. All (whether working on his floor or not) know his name, will listen to his chatter no matter how busy they are and, if the music gets his feet tapping, give him a little dance. There are many activities which he is encouraged to join, regular visiting entertainers and trips out in the minibus. The atmosphere is one of peace and calm. I know he is safe and happy there and cannot praise everyone enough for the care that he is being given."

"For the last few months, my husband has been a resident, unexpected admission but I cannot fault the care we have both received. The friendliness of all staff, care and expertise is obvious. Not an easy decision to place someone but made easier by all staff."

"My dad had been with Barchester Wykeham House Care Home for a few months. The friendliest and most warmest staff ever. They made him feel very welcome right from the start and he loved going out on the day trips. When Dad passed away, I rushed to be with him and the peaceful beautiful surroundings I encountered made everything so easy to deal with. Two staff were lying with him, holding his hands together with mood lighting and music. Just beautiful. Thank you Wykeham House. It's been a pleasure."

"Wykeham House is an excellent care facility where leadership is strong, and the care delivery to my father, living with dementia, was fantastic. Dad was admitted for palliative care, with three months to live; he lived three years and eleven months! We, as a family, were cared for by a dedicated, professional team. It is hard to find the words to express our lasting gratitude and admiration to all the staff - a superb dementia facility that we highly recommend."

"Some (most) staff listen to family. Many (maintenance especially) go above and beyond their job. Most staff work well as a team and involve myself and my opinions. The cheerful, happy atmosphere is friendly."

"Very happy with our choice. Mum has settled fairly well. Some carers are a lot more favourable than others. Integration with activities has enabled her to be wheeled out of her room and mix with others. So happy that the nurses and carers have got her out of bed each day. Food is a problem as she is a plain eater so needs assistance with eating and choices."

"My mum, who is 98 years old, has been at Wykeham House since April this year. It was a massive change for her, but I have nothing but praise for how welcoming the staff was and how much care was taken to make her feel at home. She has some dementia, and their care has enabled me to enjoy being with my mum and not have to worry about her well-being. I was worried at first, but all fears have been alleviated over the months, and my mum has been treated with dignity and kindness. She is happy and settled now, and although her memory and eyesight are not good, there have been lots of laughs and joy, which I am sure will continue. I cannot thank all the staff for the care and attention they give to my mum."

"It's always great to visit here. The staff are always so helpful and caring, and you can always trust that they will take good care of every resident. There's always lots of food choices, and lots of activities/trips out taking place. It's always very safe and clean here, and I couldn't recommend it enough."

"It is now five years since my friend had her stroke and had to make Barchester Wykeham House her home- to begin with, she was quite bright but over the years appeared to have lost her spirit. Recent months have shown massive improvements, this I believe is due to good management, a great occupational therapist and improved care and observation. I have only marked care as satisfactory because in some cases this still needs improvement- but is improving."
