Activites at Wykeham House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rachel Stevens
Activities Lead
I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.
Celebrating life at Wykeham House Care Home
Worthing trips
Residents have been enjoying the summer in style here at Wykeham House with our trips to Worthing running throughout the summer. Whatever the weather, we have headed down to the coast for fish and chips twice this month!
Horley Lions Skittle Tournament
This month residents headed to the popular local skittles event run by our local Horley Lions group! We caught the sun and had a good go down the alleys with the local community. Residents got to see old friends and make new friends.
Staff awards
With Carers week falling in June we decided to host our very own awards to show appreciation to our staff. Residents joined staff in the garden for a celebration and to watch them get their awards!
Fun at Snowhill
Residents have been enjoying their local Monday trips!
This month we took a trip to our local Haskins Garden Centre Snowhill where we shopped for our regular gardening club and then headed to the café for tea and cake!
Harlequins vs Exeter Chiefs
Our Harlequins fan Rachel took Exeter Chiefs fan Ron to the last home game of the season.
Ron used to play rugby and enjoyed a trip to Twickenham's Stoop to watch his team in a tight battle against the Quins.
Wykeham goes to Wembley
Resident, Soren, at Wykeham House, has been a season ticket holder for Crystal Palace FC. He has held his ticket for over 50 years and his team made it to their third FA Cup Final that weekend.
So the staff at the home made his wish a reality, proving it’s never too late, regardless of age, and it certainly wasn't for Palace, who secured the FA Cup win!

Dog and Duck Trip
Residents have been enjoying trips out in the new minibus this month. Our latest trip was a special event for the ladies. They wanted to spend some time just the girls gossiping and catching up, so we decided to have a local minibus trip to the Dog and Duck in Outwood.
Residents enjoyed the food and some even treated themselves to a lovely glass of wine!
Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea
We had such a wonderful afternoon at our Mad Hatters Tea Party. The sun was shining, and we enjoyed a selection of cakes, biscuits and sandwiches prepared here in our kitchen and by Periwinkle cakes.
Residents designed hats for the event and spent the afternoon enjoying some relaxing music by Oli Cavidino playing the flute. We topped off the event with an award from Guide Dogs UK to one of our residents!

Up the Albion
Soren, a resident at Wykeham House, has always been interested in football and is a keen supporter of rival team Crystal Palace.
Despite the two teams being well known for their conflicts in leagues, Soren was keen to go to the newly built Amex Stadium. He said it had always been of interest to him to see what the stadium was like.
