Activities at Wykeham House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Rachel Stevens
I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

Using up those 10 point letters.
What better way to spend an afternoon than to play scrabble with a friend. Did you know, you wont find every word in the English language but you will find 100,000 word's in the Merriam -Webster's Scrabble players dictionary. The game itself stretches our minds and improves your wellbeing - just right for our residents at Wykeham House.
Sheila's Birthday Celebrations.
What better way to celebrate your Birthday than by Head Chef Rob and his team creating a fabulous cake and then sharing it with your friends. Happy Day's
Baking Bread and Rolls for our Supper
Our Residents really enjoyed making fresh bread rolls. The mess was incredible but the fun and taste was excellent. After baking each of our residents enjoyed a warm freshly baked roll with their supper.
Flipping away on Pancke Day
Both Residents and Staff were keen to flip the pancake on this Shrove Tuesday. Both were very impressive. As usual our kitchen team did not let us down with a choice of fillings and toppings. Lemon and sugar seemed to be the most popular.
Nominated Hero's
This week our staff and residents worked alongside social media and voted for their local hero. The nominees came from our own face book page where we asked friends and families if anyone through out lockdown has gone that extra mile for either themselves or someone they knew. We had many nominees but our residents could choose between six amazing members of our community, so we delivered gifts to all six winners.
Let's get creative.
On the 16th January, our residents enjoyed a brilliant afternoon celebrating and engaging with National Flower Day. Our residents and staff where inspired with the beautiful colours and flowers that this season brings spending time creating and making flower arrangements for our home. A good time was had by all. We have some very talented residents.
