'Excellent' Result For Barchester's Canmore Lodge Care Home
Staff and residents at Canmore Lodge Care Home in Dunfermline are celebrating their recent Care Inspectorate Report result, where they scored an overall ‘Excellent’ after receiving a score of 6 for supporting people’s wellbeing, and 6 for how well the home supports and plans care. The report follows the home’s recent success on carehome.co.uk where the home recently achieved a perfect 10/10 rating.
Currently only 1.5% of Scotland’s care homes for elderly people have an overall ‘Excellent’ rating from the Care Inspectorate, making Canmore Lodge ranked among the best in the country for the quality of the services it provides.
The Care Inspectorate inspected the home on 6th June 2019 (the report was released on 23rd July 2019) and rated the home, run by Barchester Healthcare, as ‘Excellent” in all key questions inspected.
The report stated that the home was Excellent because “Every respondent told us they were extremely happy with the care and support they received at Canmore Lodge. Staff told us it was a fabulous place to work and they felt very supported.”
The report continued by stating “Residents were being fully included in activities in a meaningful way to them. For example in the mornings the activity coordinator would support people to discuss the daily news, do their exercises and participate in quizzes. Where people had specific activities they liked to do, these were actively encouraged. Residents could go on various outings in the home's mini-bus and they told us they really enjoyed the regular entertainment that took place for example musicians and therapet. Residents told us one of their favourite evenings was karaoke night when many relatives came along to enjoy the music, food and drink. People from another local service… were also made welcome. We were reassured to see that the manager had worked hard to establish links with the local community and the residents were benefitting from relationships with local primary schools and in-house church services.”
The report went on to comment on the staff and management of the home. “Relatives told us that communication on a daily basis was excellent and they were always updated in any changes of their loved ones wellbeing. They also told us the support they received themselves from management and staff was superb. The manager had an excellent overview of all aspects of care and support.”
In celebration of the rating, CEO of Barchester Healthcare Dr Pete Calveley visited the hospital to thank each member of the team personally, and presented each one with a £500 gift voucher in appreciation of their hard work.
On the day of the visit, Jane Aiken, the Senior General Manager of the home said: “We are ecstatic! Our team at Canmore Lodge work so hard to provide the highest possible standard of care for our patients and we are so delighted to be recognised for our work by the Care Inspectorate, and to be rated ‘Excellent’ overall.
“I’m very proud of the whole team who share the same values, and dedicate their lives to the people we care for to contribute for an overall better life for our residents.”
