Tour De Barchester 2023 - Live Blog

6 weeks to go and counting!

We have been busy the past few months talking with our corporate connections, suppliers and encouraging them to dig deep and sponsor this year’s event. In return the sponsors get their logo on our cycling jersey, this is something that I hope I can share with you in the next blog update.

Unfortunately the time when you can get your logo on our shirt has come to a close, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sponsor us, please see the Just Giving link at the bottom of this blog.

We have also been tweaking the route to try to make it as smooth as possible – in other words try not go up so many hills – coming down them is fine.

I have been busily getting Marilyn (my trusty bike) prepped for our tour, meanwhile Simon is currently in a sunnier and warmer climate getting some training in with Alex who will also be joining us throughout the Tour. I am pleased to announce that we also have Suzanne Gibson from Barchester’s Regulation Team joining us for day 4 (Eastbourne to Purley, aprox 70 miles) of the Tour. Suzanne will have completed Ride London a mere 12 days before she joins us so I hope her training with her dogs around a lake where she lives will hold her in good stead for the challenge.

Tour de Barchester is back again this year!

Simon McCall, Commercial Director and Shona Conway, Project Co-ordinator are excited to be riding east along the south coast this year, talking in the sights between Exeter to Battle before we start to head north towards our final destination in Purley.

This year’s tour takes place over 4 days from 6th June, you’ll remember last year we rode in early July when we had a heat wave, so we are hoping for the weather to be a little cooler and therefore an even better cycle, with the wind at our backs.

During the 4 days we are set to cycle over 270 miles and visit 15 of our care homes, most of which have been built and opened in the past couple of years.

Training through the winter months has been tough, so I am especially glad for the longer days with lighter mornings and evenings.

For those who remember Marilyn from last year (my trusty stead) she really does need a good scrub to get her ready, I have been going out for slightly longer rides more recently often in the rain, so she is a little muddy and she really does deserve a spruce up before she has a service in advance of our 4 day ride together.
