Liverpudlian to cycle the country in aid of Alzheimer's charity

A 51-year-old catering tutor from Liverpool will cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats next month in order to raise funds for the dementia research charity Alzheimer's Research UK.

Phil Christopherson will set off on the 870 mile ... on April 6th and aims to complete the journey within six days.

He decided to support the charity after his mother Fran, 76, was diagnosed with two forms of dementia –frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

"She was diagnosed two years ago and since then I’ve been appalled to learn about the lack of research funding to find new treatments," he explained.

"Cycling the length of mainland Britain gives me an opportunity to do something positive by raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK."

Parminder Summon, community fundraising manager for Alzheimer’s Research UK, said that every £20 Mr Christopherson raises will pay for an hour of vital research which will contribute to improving diagnosing and curing dementia.
