To the manor born

The students from the school, aged between 5-11, gathered as the winning name, Wadhurst Manor, and the winning pupil, Mia Town, were announced to a hall full of pyjama-clad school children who were raising money for Comic Relief.

National care provider Barchester Healthcare, which will run the new 65-bed care home opening this autumn, launched the competition at the school last month to name the new home. Pupils entered their suggestions in the hope of winning cinema vouchers for their family and £100 book vouchers for their school. All those who proposed a name were rewarded with a £5 WHSmith voucher.

Winner Mia said: "I named the home Wadhurst Manor because I think the manner in which you care for someone is important and how you treat people too. What better place than in a manor!"

Jo Bown, General Manager for the newly named Barchester run care home, said: "Congratulations to Mia for winning the naming competition and well done to all those who put lots of thought into their entries. The name is befitting as the home is set in extensive grounds and a great place for our prospective residents to live.

"At Barchester we pride ourselves on building up excellent relationships with our local community and our new home is no different! We hope to continue this happy association with the school who have done a fabulous job in helping us chose a name."

Some of the other entries from pupils at the school included: Fox Hill, Happy Bear Place, Maple Hurst Lodge and Camellia Court.
