Sleep deprivation 'increases chance of stroke and heart attack'
Sleep deprived individuals have a higher chance of experiencing a stroke or heart attack, new research shows.
A study, from Warwick Medical School, found that those who sleep less than six hours a night and have disturbed sleep have a 48 per cent increased chance of developing heart disease and a 15 per cent higher chance of having a stroke.
Researcher Professor Francesco Cappuccio warned: "The trend for late nights and early mornings is actually a ticking time bomb for our health so you need to act now to reduce your risk of developing these life-threatening conditions."
Meanwhile, a new study published in CNS Drugs found that by using a new delivery method of anti-inflammatory drug etanercept, they could improve the symptoms of those with brain injury following a stroke.
Patients who underwent the treatment experienced rapid improvements in hand function, motor function, spatial perception, sensory deficits, behaviour, gait, speech and cognition.
