Social care providers urged to join Dementia Pledge

Providers of social care are being urged to show their support for dementia care and research by signing the Dementia Pledge.

The pledge was launched during February this year and already 360 care providers have agreed to join up.

Commissioned by the Department of Health National Dementia Work Force Advisory Group, the pledge has four key components; They are a commitment to getting to know patients with dementia, providing quality care, the facilities needed for patients to have a quality life and be value-focussed.

Once a group has signed up, it is given access to learning resources and information which can help them to assess and improve the care they provide.

Professor Martin Green OBE, chief executive of the English Community Care Association and joint chair of the Dementia Pledge, said: “The Dementia Pledge is a proactive way for care providers to demonstrate their commitment to delivering excellent dementia care."

He added that he has already received positive feedback from the care providers who have joined the scheme.
