Activities at Ashfields Care Home

At Ashfields, we strive to make our care and services as person-centred as we possibly can, and this includes our provision of activities. We will give prospective residents a 'Getting to Know Me' booklet to fill out with their loved ones before their arrival, which includes a little life history and a tick sheet for a vast amount of activities. This enables us to offer bespoke activities and helps us to learn valuable information about residents and what might stimulate them in conversations and trips.

Our specialist activities and lifestyle staff make sure there are always meaningful activities to take part in, such as gardening, baking and trips out to various locations nearby, including local cathedrals, cafés, garden centres and much more.

Residents are encouraged to take part and we try to get every person out at least once a month to places they might be interested in visiting, but it is always their choice, ultimately. We believe that having choice is very integral in helping residents feel that they still have control of their lives.

Activities are provided by everyone in our home, from Carers and specialised activities staff, right through to the admin team.

We are a registered member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA), which means that we are always working to make the quality of life of all residents as high as possible by offering person-centred activities that aim to stimulate both mentally and physically.

Senior Health & Fitness Day

There were smiles all round at Ashfields as live entertainers are allowed to perform indoors once again. Sarah Chow performed Zumba armchair exercise for staff and residents on Senior Health and Fitness Day.

Created to inspire senior-friendly physical activity, the national day was launched to increase awareness of the importance of remaining active to maintain strong, healthy joints and muscles, and to encourage diet and lifestyle changes for an overall improvement to well-being, and illness prevention.

A Day at the Beach

Ashfields residents took a trip down Memory Lane with our 'day at the beach' reminiscence activity.

Residents really enjoyed seaside-themed dining, with homemade fish and chips made by our talented chef, and a visit from Mr. Whippy, the local ice cream van.

After lunch, we used various materials, such as a seaside memorabilia packs, including shells, pictures and memorable leaflets from holiday cams and beaches, to spark conversations about memories of the days at the Norfolk coast.

We also watched a documentary on the North Norfolk coast and participated in seaside nostalgia jigsaw puzzles.

It was so interesting listening to the memories of the residents and how far they travelled for their caravan holidays.

Salute to the Duke

Staff and residents at Ashfields paid their respects to the Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on the day of his funeral, 17th April 2021.

The whole home came together to honour Prince Philip’s long and extraordinary life in service to the Queen, the British people and the Commonwealth over his 73 year marriage to the Queen, making him the longest-serving Consort to any British monarch.

Easter Celebrations

The Easter bunny visited Ashfields after hearing about our Easter extravaganza.

Bunny thought it would be a great idea to hold an Easter egg hunt and hand out chocolate eggs. The Easter bunny really enjoyed seeing the residents at Ashfields beam from ear-to-ear with big smiles and lots of laughter

She decided to stay to play a few Easter games, such as giant Easter egg piñata. Residents at Ashfields each took turns in trying to knock down the giant egg to release sweet treats at Easter. No matter how hard they all tried the egg just would not break.

Nutrition & Hydration Week

Ashfields participated in a various activities to promote the importance of Nutrition and Hydration Week. Each day of the week had its own topic, such as 'Movement Monday'. On this particular day, we focused on gentle exercise with a virtual yoga class, with a selection flavoured infused waters in the interval.

We took part in lots of activities to support this week, including an arts and craft session, creating a healthy food board, exotic food tasting, a reminiscence group and home-grown fruit and veg. We even made healthy lunch bags for our healthcare professionals visiting the home, with a few Barchester goodies inside.

Irish Afternoon

Our very own Irish leprechaun visited residents at Ashfields, spreading heaps of joy as she handed out golden chocolate coins and Irish coffees, all whilst dancing along to Irish folk music.
