Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Donna Brooks
My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange care home Hebburn. I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able. As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home
Love is in the air at Bedewell Grange
Our home was filled with flowers, cards, balloons and decorations as we celebrated the day of love in style with sweet treats and gifts.
Our residents had the opportunity to taste delicious themed sweet and savoury treats, prepared by our talented chef, whilst listening to all-time favourite love songs.
It was a lovely day and it was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get involved with the days festivities.
Sensory Morning at Bedewell Grange
We have had a sensory morning on our Memory Lane unit this week!
Our ladies and gents had a game of ‘Lotto Of Odours’, and had a go at guessing the different smells on the board. There were some very interesting odours! Especially chimney - which wasn’t well liked at all!

Valentine's inspired cookery demo
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration. Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.
Time to Talk at Bedewell Grange
Today is 'Time to Talk Day'. Ran by the charity Mind.
The day is all about creating supportive communities by having conversations with family, friends, or colleagues about mental health. We all have mental health, by talking about it we can support ourselves and others.
Today we took some time out to talk to each other about how we were feeling. Our residents and staff then spread some positivity throughout the home.
Bedewell Grange Celebrates Chinese New Year
We welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.
The Chinese New Year is China’s most important festival that celebrated the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar calendar.
Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, our residents enjoyed a creative session with Chinese New Year DIY dragons and made beautiful lanterns to mark the day.
We all enjoyed some music from Greater China, watched last year’s celebrations and had some delicious Chinese food. It was a fun day.
Sisters reunited
Sisters, Jenny and Belle, were reunited recently and purely by chance at Bedewell Grange care home in Hebburn, Tyne & Wear, after spending years apart.
Belle and her younger sister, Jenny, found each other again at Bedewell Grange, and are now sharing many beautiful memories.
Belle and Jenny last saw each other in 2014 for Belle's 90th birthday. Belle moved into Bedewell Grange in April 2019. Jenny arrived at the end of November and the when the sisters were reunited, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Both sisters were born very close to Bedewell Grange in Felling, they were born at home. They were always close despite the age gap, Jenny was the baby of the family. They also have two brothers, Joseph and Edward, who both emigrated to Australia.
