Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Coronation Celebrations Begin at Cumberland Grange

Our weekend of Coronation Celebrations began with everyone joining together to share a very special moment, as we watched the crowning of King Charles III. In keeping with tradition, our residents then rang the bell to celebrate this momentous event, whilst raising a glass to toast the King and Queen.

Families and friends joined us for an afternoon BBQ as we all enjoyed sharing in this special occasion together.

Singing for Wellbeing

Our visits to the Singing for the Brain session run by Age UK in Exeter are always such fun, bringing everyone together to sing a variety of songs they know and love, along with fun vocal exercises that help improve brain activity and increase wellbeing.

Coronation Weekend Preparations

We’re getting ready for a weekend of celebrations here at Cumberland Grange and everyone one is getting involved !

The decorations are up with themed flags, banners and bunting all ready for celebrating this historic event with a barbeque and royal picnic, along with live music and entertainment over the 3 days.

Favourite Flavours

We really enjoy celebrating the birthdays of everyone living with us here at Cumberland Grange. Head Chef Chris is a wizard with the piping bag and always on hand to bake everyone's favourite flavoured cakes.

A very Happy Birthday to our wonderful resident Avril who celebrated with a slice of chocolate cake, shared amongst good friends.

Gardening Club Seedling Success

It's not been long since we planted our seeds and many are germinating already - peppers, courgettes, herbs and a colourful selection of flowers. We can't wait for the return of milder weather so we can get out in the garden and plant everything in our raised beds.

Singing for the Brain with Age UK Exeter

Exeter Age UK offer some fantastic activities which many of our residents really enjoy participating in.

Singing for the Brain is a really enjoyable afternoon, with a mix of show tunes and classic hits to join in with, and its not just for those living with dementia, as the sessions are open to everyone who enjoys group singing.
