Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Andrews

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Gosia and I am the Activities Co-Ordinator here at Cumberland Grange.

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied Life Enrichment Programme which is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in. We do lots of different activities here which change on a regular basis, including weekly trips out in our mini bus, flower arranging, live musical performances, arts and crafts, cheese and wine nights and so much more. We also have groups which happen every week, mostly lead by our residents, including Poetry Club, Gardening Club, Politics and Pastries, Cumberland Grange Choir and Knit and Natter.

We have monthly resident meetings where we discuss life at Cumberland Grange. We talk about the activities that we currently run, including activities that our residents would like us to incorporate into the planner.

Making wishes come true is also something that we love to do. So, if our resident has a wish, together we try our best to make that happen, because life at Cumberland is about having fun and making even more special memories.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Random Acts of Kindness Day!

Yesterday we celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day!Beth our General Manager, Mica our Home Services Advisor, Gosia our Activities Coordinator and Sue and Paul our wonderful residents have made it their mission to spread joy and make people smile. They started their day in Princesshay Exeter by handing out at random, x8 £10 Princesshay gift vouchers - which were so well received. Followed by a trip to the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to hand out freshly baked cupcakes to lots of the staff on shift. What a WHOLESOME day! Thank you to everyone who we have met today, because you’ve also made our day by being so lovely.

A walk to our local

Sometimes, we leave the mini bus behind and head out on foot. Luckily for us we have a lovely local pub close by so recently Bob our Head of Maintenance took a stroll with our residents Paul and Sandy to The Pinhoe Hoard - Exeter. Cheers!

WINNIE THE POOH DAY

One of our most loved annual activities.Last week, we celebrated Winnie the Pooh Day! Our residents came together with their beloved teddies, sharing the stories behind them. We enjoyed a Teddy Bears Picnic whilst we read some of our favourite stories and quotes to one another, which filled the room with smiles and laughter, warming the hearts of everyone there! “We didn’t realise we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun.” - A.A Milne, Winnie the Pooh Author

An afternoon with Exeter Chiefs Community

Thank you so much to Tom, Ryan and Ollie for joining us this afternoon for Christmas cocktail making here at Cumberland.

On the cocktail menu was:

• Naughty or Nice

• Snowballs

Perfectly shaken and stirred (unless Tom was in control of the shaker) and served to our residents around the home.

Our residents had such a great afternoon!

We also want to take this opportunity to say the biggest thank you to them for securing us some tickets to go and watch the women’s match this Saturday which we are SO excited for! We’ve got our Exeter Chiefs Official scarves and hats at the ready and we can’t wait.

Christmas shopping trip!

Today our residents had a wonderful mooch around Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market and had a look at all of the beautiful stalls and independent businesses! After our little shopping trip we finished with mulled wines and hot chocolate brandy’s before heading back home. A magical afternoon together getting into the Christmas spirit!
