Activities at Hethersett Hall Care Home

Activities, hobbies and interests make up the most important part of our days and who we are as people. We provide a varied activities programme that reflects the interests and capabilities of all the individuals we support. All of the group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. We achieve this through a constantly updated activities programme and one-to-one sessions with residents that are tailored to suit individuals needs. We also offer a range of outings in our mini-bus.

Caroline Evans

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I’m Caroline Evans and I’ve been at Hethersett Hall for 7 years now and been in the care sector for 13 years and believed it was time for a change in my career at Barchester.

I’m extremely motivated for my new role as activities coordinator. I hope I will bring joy and fun to everyone’s daily lives. I am a highly active and bubbly person. Looking after other people has always been my priority and I will do my best every day to make sure everyone is happy, safe and smiling.

I look forward to meeting you and hope you will all join in the events and activities that I will bring to Hethersett Hall.

Cheers!

‘Sounds lovely” said both our residents when asked if they would like a walk down to the village in the wonderful sunshine and fresh air, especially when we mentioned a drink in the local pub ‘The Queens Head’.

It was a great walk down, we chatted about the weather and what we fancied to drink at the pub and were very much in need of a drink when we got there!

The staff at the The Queens Head in Hethersett were very friendly, even putting a ramp down to help us out and showing us the best place to sit for some shade. Our residents enjoyed a St. Clements and half a bitter shandy. What a lovely day for all!

National Afternoon Tea Celebrations

The week beginning 8th of August it was National Afternoon Tea week and our residents love an afternoon tea! We all got together to play some tea themed games and to reminisce about our favourite memories and refreshments at an afternoon tea. We had such a laugh playing games like Tea Bag Throwing and Sugar Cube stacking, a cup of tea afterwards was well deserved!

Savoury Supper

Earlier this month our residents had a go at making cheese scones. The photos show the different stages of the cook, from sieving the flour, (done expertly by our resident ex baker who took delight in showing us how to sieve properly!) making the breadcrumbs, rolling out the dough and adding the finishing touches of the cheese  sprinkles on the tops.

Our ladies loved the feel of the dough and reminiscing about all the cakes and things they had cooked up in the kitchen over the years, chatting about recipes handed down to them from their mother and their own little touches they would add to them to give it a little bit of their own zest.

A fun afternoon, and even more fun was had eating them later for tea!

Friend in Deed Friday

Every Friday our residents look forward to seeing Little Visitors from Friend in Deed. Everyone gathers in the Lounge for a morning of cuddles, smiles and laughter. The joy these wonderful volunteers bring to our residents is truly something special.

Baking Club

Our residents in Memory Lane really enjoyed taking part in baking session to make chocolate fridge cake. They especially loved bashing the biscuits and mixing it all together, the smell of the melting chocolate, butter and golden syrup was delightful. The finished product was then left in the fridge to set and was served with their afternoon tea later in the day. Delicious!

Go Go Dino!

A few months back we were lucky enough to take part in a joint care home effort to paint our very own Go Go Discover with the Charity Break. Our residents had the tail to paint (see previous posts for pics of them in action), afterwards it then travelled to a further three care homes Woodside, The Warren and Ashfields (check out Facebook) for them to paint their sections, the last home it finished at then coated our dino in a glossy finish to really make it stand out! Earlier this month, we met up with fellow artists from each home who took part in the painting at Castle Quarter in Norwich to view our 'roarsome foursome dino' in its new home! What a 'roaring' success!
