Activities at Hundens Park Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can

Christmas Donations

Christmas Donations

On 4th December, Hundens Park gratefully received a kind donation from Tesco's Bishop Auckland store.

Donations have been flooding into the store over the last 2 weeks, following a challenge from one kind shopper, which went viral over the internet. A total of 9 tons of food, toiletries and Christmas gifts has been donated to this Tesco store alone, and Hundens Park was one of many beneficiaries.

Community champion for the store, John Bailey, met with staff and residents and discussed the great benefits of community partnership, such as ensuring that vulnerable people are supported through the winter period.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We hosted a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Staff were busy in the kitchen making delicious treats, and we managed to raise over £65. Games were played by all, and one residents won chocolates and pink wine, which she shared with her granddaughter.

10 Years of Service

10 Years of Service

Sharon Payne, Senior Support Worker on the Darnton Suite, received her 10 year Long Service Award recently. Staff and residents were there to congratulate her and give thanks for her dedication and consistent high standards over the last decade. We hope that Sharon continues as a valued member of the team for many years to come.

Ukulele Tunes

Ukulele Tunes

One resident had expressed a desire to hear a ukulele player and her dream came true when Jacob, our General Manager’s son – who was celebrating his birthday – provided a wonderful selection of songs.

There was singing and dancing and even a short lesson on how to play. We look forward to Jacob's return in the future.

Darnton Suite Makeover

The Darnton Suite at Hundens provides care and support for adults living with dementia other mental health conditions, and has recently received a makeover. We brought the outside in, with lots of garden-themed decorations. We used music to make memories and also designed some work-related reminiscence areas for male residents.

DIY at Hundens

DIY at Hundens

Hundens Park residents spent the day painting and decorating recently. They focused on bringing some colour to the garden; the birds will be very impressed with their new nesting boxes. As everyone was so talented, we decided to paint some lucky horseshoes too, which have pride of place on the pergola to bring luck to anyone who walks under them.
