Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Musical Memories

Musical Memories

We were in good shape and spirit during our most recent musical memories session. Alex Petersen, head of activities at Lucerne House regularly brings his guitar as well as a range of songs spanning many decades for us to enjoy.

There is always something for everyone and a chance to sing a song, dance or to sit back and reminisce about past days.

Animal Visits at Lucerne House

Animal Visits at Lucerne House

At Lucerne House we have many great sources of interaction and engagement that enable us to enjoy a rich and fulfilling way of life. One source is our animal visitors from “AniMates” that visit us three times per month.

We have been enjoying Tenner, the dog along with Guinness, the rabbit and many others. Rose the tortoise is also a favourite and is surprisingly fast and agile. We will continue to enjoy these visits from ''AniMates'', monitor our upcoming events and join us.

Refreshing Afternoon

Refreshing Afternoon

At Lucerne House we have some wonderful local amenities that we visit on a regular basis. Last week we had a great time at our local pub. With temperatures up and the sun out, our residents enjoyed a little tipple and a good laugh as we whiled away the afternoon.

Word Games

Word Games

At Lucerne House, we regularly meet to socialise, have coffee mornings, exercise and play games. One which is very popular is our Scrabble group. In a recent session, we had a head-to-head match between Alex Petersen (Head of Activities) and Ernest, a resident. It was a close game, but Ernest powered through to win by over 40 points.

We love playing the game and are always looking for new challengers, so if you are passing by or have a keen interest in Scrabble and would like to join us, then don’t hesitate to pop in or give us a call and arrange to visit.

Our Divisional Winner

Our Divisional Winner

Well done to Alex Peterson, who was named as a Divisional Winner in the 'Activities Coordinator of the Year' category for the 2019 Barchester Care Awards.

Village Fête

Village Fête

We were delighted to be invited back to the village church fête again this year and run the ever popular chocolate tombola stall. Activities staff members, Alex Petersen and Sam Viggers, along with resident, Ernest, and helper, Jacob Petersen, spent the afternoon interacting and sharing a wonderful time with members of our village. The stall was so popular that we had to re-stock half way through.

Congratulations to all the lucky winners and we look forward to helping out with other village and community projects and programs in the future
