Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

Bringing Our Community Together with a New Monthly Pub Lunch
At Middletown Grange Care Home, we are delighted to introduce a new monthly dining experience designed to bring residents together for great food, companionship, and a change of scenery.
Residents will now enjoy a regular outing to the local Lamb & Flag pub, taking place on the second Wednesday of each month. This new initiative continues our commitment to providing enriching, community-focused experiences that support social connection and wellbeing.
While we were sorry to see our much-loved village lunches come to an end in December, this exciting new chapter ensures that the tradition of shared dining and meaningful moments continues. The welcoming setting of the Lamb & Flag offers the perfect backdrop for residents to relax, enjoy delicious meals, and spend quality time together.
The experience is offered at £7 per person, and we are pleased to extend a warm invitation to family members and friends to join us. These occasions are a wonderful opportunity to connect, share stories, and create lasting memories in a relaxed and sociable environment.
To reserve a place, please contact the home directly. We look forward to welcoming residents and their loved ones to what promises to be a highlight of each month.

Sip, Paint & A Splash of Sparkle: Creativity Flourishes!
At Middletown Grange Care Home, meaningful experiences are at the heart of everything we do, and our latest Sip & Paint session was a shining example of how exceptional activities can inspire joy, creativity, and connection.
Residents were invited to an elegant afternoon of artistic expression, where canvases came to life with vibrant floral designs. With a glass of chilled prosecco in hand and a warm, sociable atmosphere all around, the session offered far more than painting, it created a moment of indulgence, relaxation, and shared celebration.
Each artwork told its own story. From bold, expressive brushstrokes in vivid pinks to beautifully intricate detailing, every piece reflected the individuality and creativity of its artist. The room was filled with laughter, conversation, and a gentle sparkle, both in the glasses and in the experience itself.
This thoughtfully curated activity highlights Middletown Grange’s commitment to delivering premium, person-centred experiences that nurture wellbeing and self-expression. By combining creativity with a touch of luxury, we ensure our residents enjoy opportunities that feel both enriching and truly special.
At Middletown Grange, we believe in going beyond the everyday. We don’t just create art, we create moments that matter.

Pancake Day
Middletown Grange Care Home celebrated Shrove Tuesday in delicious style with lively pancake stations set up across both units, creating a fun and interactive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
Fresh pancakes were served with a wide selection of toppings, giving each person the freedom to build their perfect plate. Options ranged from classic lemon and sugar to honey, maple syrup, banana with cream, and strawberry jam, all topped with whipped cream and a glacé cherry for a festive finish.
Laughter filled the room as choices were compared, favourite combinations were shared, and many couldn’t resist going back for “just one more.” The event offered not only a tasty treat but also meaningful opportunities for social interaction, independence, and celebration of seasonal traditions.
Activities like this reflect the home’s ongoing commitment to enriching daily life through choice, creativity, and shared experiences that bring joy and connection.

A New Chapter Begins: Our Weekly Book Club
We’re delighted to launch our weekly Book Club at Middletown Grange where stories, conversation, and connection take centre stage (with a little prosecco and refreshments for good measure!).
Designed for all abilities, the club is about choice and empowerment. Some residents enjoy reading aloud together, others prefer independent reading, and many simply enjoy listening, looking through pictures, or joining the discussion in their own way. With large-print books, magnifying glasses, dementia-friendly reads, and illustrated books available, everyone can take part comfortably and confidently.
This is a relaxed, welcoming space focused on choice, confidence, and shared enjoyment. The Book Club is open to all residents and community members, every Sunday from 1.30pm.
Because it’s not just about reading, it’s about belonging, empowerment, and starting new chapters together.
A Mother's Day to Remember!
We were delighted to host a truly elegant Mother’s Day Tea Party, bringing together residents, families, and friends for an afternoon filled with warmth, joy, and shared celebration.
The home was alive with laughter and conversation as guests enjoyed a delightful selection of refreshments, including sherry, wine, and refreshing mocktails. A beautifully presented array of freshly baked cakes, lovingly prepared by our Head Chef, Jad, added a touch of indulgence to the occasion and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Earlier in the day, each of our wonderful ladies was presented with flowers to mark the celebration. It was a meaningful gesture that recognised not only mothers, but all those who have offered care, guidance, and support to others throughout their lives. The sentiment resonated deeply, celebrating the many ways in which nurturing and kindness are shared across generations.
We were especially grateful for the help of residents David and Elgin, who kindly assisted in handing out the flowers, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the day.
Events like these reflect our commitment to creating inclusive, uplifting experiences that bring people together and celebrate life’s special moments. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so memorable.

A Fond Farewell to Louise After 21 Years at Middletown Grange
At Middletown Grange Care Home, we recently came together to celebrate and honour an extraordinary milestone as we said a heartfelt farewell to our much-loved Head Housekeeper, Louise, affectionately known by the team as “Grandma”, following an incredible 21 years of dedicated service.
Louise is truly known and appreciated by everyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside her or meeting her over the years. With an unmatched knowledge of the home, she knew every cupboard, every corner, and every resident. A true master of all trades, Louise has been an integral part of daily life at Middletown Grange and someone the entire team could always rely on. If ever something went missing, there was only one solution. Ask “Grandma”, and Louise would always know exactly where to find it.
Her contribution goes far beyond maintaining the highest standards within our home. Louise brought warmth, kindness, humour, and unwavering support to residents and colleagues alike. Her friendly smile and the many conversations and moments of laughter she shared have left a lasting impact on everyone at Middletown Grange.
While her retirement marks the end of an era, we are delighted that this is not a final goodbye. Louise had promised to return for visits, bringing along her beloved dogs to spend time with residents, offering the joy and comfort of special pet therapy sessions.
We extend our sincere thanks to Louise for her remarkable dedication and the care she has shown over more than two decades. She will be greatly missed by residents, staff, and friends of Middletown Grange, and we wish her a truly happy and well-deserved retirement filled with relaxation and new adventures.

A Spoonful of Popcorn Helps the Music Go Down
Today in our Memory Lane unit, our residents enjoyed a beautifully thought-out afternoon that combined creativity, familiarity, and comfort. We began with an arts and crafts session, making our own popcorn boxes, adding purpose, choice, and anticipation to the experience before the main event.
The afternoon then flowed into a cosy cinema-style screening of The Sound of Music, complete with popcorn served in the boxes made earlier. This much-loved classic was a carefully chosen film: familiar, comforting, and rich in music that many residents recognise and remember. The songs sparked smiles, gentle singing along, and emotional connection, making it especially meaningful for those living with dementia.
Activities like this are about more than entertainment. They support reminiscence, sensory engagement, emotional wellbeing, and a sense of continuity, all delivered in a calm, reassuring environment where residents feel safe and supported.
At Middletown Grange Care Home, we believe in creating experiences with intention where every step, from preparation to participation, adds value and meaning to the day.

Bringing History and Art to Life Through a Shared Cultural Experience
Residents recently enjoyed an enriching live virtual event in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum, exploring their current exhibition dedicated to Marie Antoinette.
The session offered a fascinating insight into her life, the elegance of 18th-century fashion, and even the culinary tastes of the era. Residents were fully immersed in the experience, engaging with the storytelling and visual elements that brought this iconic historical figure to life.
Inspired by the creativity of the exhibition, residents also took part in a calming painting session, interpreting what they had seen and learnt in their own unique way. This combination of cultural enrichment and hands-on creativity provided a meaningful and stimulating afternoon for all involved.
The event reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, engaging experiences that connect residents with the wider world. By bringing renowned cultural institutions into the home, we create opportunities for learning, creativity, and shared conversation in a truly accessible and inclusive way.
Moments like these highlight the importance of continued discovery and inspiration, ensuring residents can enjoy enriching experiences that nurture both mind and imagination.

Where Flowers Bloom, Memories Do Too
This afternoon in our Memory Lane unit, flower arranging became so much more than a creative activity. As hands selected colours, textures, and familiar scents, conversations flowed, smiles appeared, and memories gently resurfaced. Each arrangement told its own story, shaped by personal choice, shared moments, and a sense of purpose.
These sessions are thoughtfully designed to nurture wellbeing in every sense: encouraging sensory stimulation, supporting fine motor skills, building confidence, and, most importantly, creating meaningful moments of connection in a calm and familiar environment.
