Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home

There was plenty of excitement at Middletown Grange as our ice cream trolley made its way around the home!

Residents enjoyed choosing their favourite flavours and toppings, bringing back fond memories of seaside trips, summer holidays and treats shared with loved ones. There were plenty of smiles as everyone tucked into a refreshing treat.

Sometimes it’s the simplest pleasures that bring the greatest joy, and our ice cream trolley certainly brightened everyone’s day. After all, who says you’re ever too old for an ice cream?

There was plenty of Country & Western spirit at Middletown Grange as residents enjoyed an afternoon of music, dancing and Wild West fun.

Cowboy hats were at the ready as everyone joined in with some classic country tunes, with plenty of laughter and a few impressive dance moves along the way.

Staff suspect the Activities Coordinator may have been responsible for turning the home into the Wild West, but unfortunately, by the end of the afternoon the description matched far too many residents to identify a suspect.

Case remains open!

Residents at Middletown Grange Care Home recently enjoyed their monthly outing to the local Lamb & Flag pub, proving that a little rain is no match for good food and great company.

Wrapped up warm against the British weather, residents headed to the village pub where they enjoyed a delicious lunch of sausage and mash with vegetables and rich onion gravy, followed by a comforting apple crumble for dessert.

Regular outings such as these play an important role in supporting residents' wellbeing by encouraging social interaction, maintaining community connections, and providing opportunities to enjoy familiar local venues.

The afternoon was filled with conversation, laughter, and plenty of smiles, making it another successful outing for residents and staff alike.

Residents at Middletown Grange Care Home came together to celebrate the 81st anniversary of VE Day with a special afternoon of music, reminiscence, and traditional refreshments.

The home was decorated in red, white and blue as residents gathered to remember and reflect on this important moment in history. The celebrations were brought to life by the wonderful Fiona Harrison, who arrived dressed in full wartime uniform and performed a selection of much-loved songs from the 1940s. Residents enjoyed singing along, waving flags, sharing memories, and reminiscing about their own experiences and recollections of wartime Britain. The celebrations continued with a traditional afternoon tea, featuring a delicious selection of homemade cakes, fresh scones, trifle, and finger sandwiches prepared by the home's talented hospitality team.

At Middletown Grange, commemorative events such as VE Day provide valuable opportunities for reminiscence, social connection, and meaningful engagement. The afternoon was a fitting tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the wartime generation, while also bringing residents together to celebrate shared memories and experiences.

The impromptu gathering provided residents with an opportunity to relax, socialise and enjoy a selection of delicious refreshments in a welcoming atmosphere. The afternoon was filled with conversation, laughter and reminiscing, creating a wonderful sense of togetherness throughout the home.

At Middletown Grange, it is often the simple moments that have the greatest impact. Activities such as afternoon teas encourage social interaction, support emotional wellbeing and help residents maintain meaningful connections with one another.
The surprise event was warmly received by residents and served as a lovely reminder that special memories can be created through life's everyday pleasures.        

We were all a little mad here… and what a wonderful afternoon it was!

Our garden was transformed into Wonderland for a magical Alice in Wonderland themed afternoon tea. Residents enjoyed blue fairy-tale cupcakes, delicious sweet treats and refreshing drinks, surrounded by colourful decorations that brought the much-loved story to life.

With the White Rabbit hurrying everyone along, there were plenty of smiles and laughter as residents stepped through the rabbit hole for an afternoon filled with friendship, sunshine and wonderful memories.

It certainly was a very merry afternoon at Middletown Grange!

If you were wondering where Wimbledon moved to this year, it turns out Centre Court was right here at Middletown Grange!

Our residents enjoyed a wonderfully British afternoon in the summer sunshine, complete with strawberries and cream, refreshing Pimm’s, fresh fruit and plenty of Wimbledon spirit. Some residents even arrived with their very own tickets in hand as they made their way to our “Centre Court”.

With glorious weather, plenty of laughter and great company, residents enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere and celebrating one of Britain’s most cherished summer traditions together.

It was a lovely opportunity to bring the excitement of Wimbledon into our home and create a memorable summer afternoon for everyone.

Game. Set. Match!

Residents at Middletown Grange Care Home recently enjoyed a special cinema experience as they gathered to watch *We Were There: D-Day*, taking time to remember and commemorate those involved in the D-Day landings.

The home was transformed into a cosy cinema setting, complete with cake, snacks, and refreshments for residents to enjoy while watching the film together. Throughout the screening, residents shared memories, reflections, and conversations, creating a meaningful and engaging experience.

At Middletown Grange, commemorative events provide valuable opportunities for reminiscence, learning, and social connection. The afternoon offered a chance to reflect on an important moment in history while honouring the courage and sacrifice of those who served.

It was a thoughtful and moving occasion, bringing residents together in remembrance and reflection. 

Middletown Grange Care Home is proud to support the ongoing development of its team, and we are delighted that our Second Chef, Simon, is attending the Barchester Chef Academy.

The academy provides specialist training designed to help chefs create nutritious, attractive, and appetising meals that meet the individual needs of residents. Good nutrition plays a vital role in supporting health, wellbeing, and quality of life, making it an important focus within the home.

Barchester Healthcare is committed to investing in its staff through high-quality training and development opportunities, ensuring residents continue to receive the highest standards of care and hospitality.

We wish Simon every success as he develops his skills and brings new ideas and knowledge back to Middletown Grange to benefit our residents.       

Residents marked St George’s Day with a themed baking session, creating a homemade cake together from start to finish.

A special highlight came from CP Corina, who demonstrated how to create decorative marzipan roses, inspiring residents with her creativity and skill.

Residents enjoyed taking part in the baking process before sharing the finished cake together during the celebration.    

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful visit to Wood Green School after being kindly invited to their Summer Concert.

The afternoon was filled with fantastic performances from the pupils, including instrumental pieces and beautiful choir songs that had everyone smiling and tapping along. Following the concert, residents were warmly welcomed into the school cafeteria for delicious cupcakes, a cup of tea and plenty of conversation.

Intergenerational experiences like these are incredibly meaningful, bringing different generations together through music, conversation and shared moments.

Residents at Middletown Grange Care Home recently marked Cheese Day with a special tasting session as part of the home's ongoing focus on nutrition and positive dining experiences.

The event gave residents the opportunity to sample a variety of cheeses accompanied by crackers and grapes, encouraging them to explore different flavours, textures, and personal favourites. The tasting session sparked plenty of conversation and laughter, creating a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.

At Middletown Grange, mealtimes are about more than nutrition alone. Activities such as food tasting sessions help promote choice, independence, and meaningful social interaction, while encouraging residents to engage positively with food and dining experiences.
The session was enjoyed by all and proved to be a wonderful way to combine nutrition, wellbeing, and a little culinary adventure. 

Residents at Middletown Grange Care Home were delighted to welcome Florence, the home's much-loved pet therapy dog, for another heart-warming visit.

Florence spent time with residents enjoying cuddles, attention, and plenty of fuss, bringing smiles to faces throughout the home. Her gentle nature and friendly personality encouraged conversation, social interaction, and moments of comfort for residents.

Animal-assisted activities play an important role in supporting emotional wellbeing, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness while creating opportunities for meaningful engagement. Florence's visits are always eagerly anticipated and continue to have a positive impact on residents' wellbeing.

The team and residents are already looking forward to Florence's next visit and the joy she brings to Middletown Grange.
