Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Preparing for Advent
We are getting very close to the first Sunday of Advent and here at Milford we are getting ready for the start of the Christmas season by taking round our advent calendars for the residents to choose from so that they are ready to go on the 1st December.
We have a wonderful choice and there is something for everyone, from traditional Christmas scenes and carols to representations of Highgrove House and Blenheim Palace all set in snow scenes. Each year this is a festive favourite with residents and we are delighted to keep the tradition going!
Wreath Making
Residents enjoyed an interactive virtual wreath making demonstration from Blooming Haus which challenged us to make a stunning Christmas wreath. Having briefed us on the supplies we needed, we were expertly guided through the processes involved in creating a stunning wreath and everyone was delighted with the outcome and we will be putting our creation into the competition for the best wreath! The session really brought out the creativity of everyone who attended and, with our new found skills, we are now planning on making more wreaths to go up around the home for the festive season.
National Poetry Day
Many of our residents love poetry and the day was celebrated with a combined reading of a special Harvest Festival poem, which was an original joint work by residents. The result can be found on our Facebook page and is well worth a look and listen! Why not like our page and keep up to date with all the happenings at Milford?
Residents also looked up their own personal favourites in our various anthologies to read and enjoy and evoke those special memories which poetry often engenders.
Wine Tasting Afternoon
Residents thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon of wine tasting with Lee Isaacs and Nick Parker from Unity Wines, in association with Bidfood UK. Linking up via Zoom, we had a range of wines that included sparkling, rose, red and white, to test our palettes, and which were accompanied by a selection of cheeses.
The afternoon flew by as we discussed each wine, learned a bit about the history of wine and winemaking and were able to ask questions. This was a really fascinating afternoon, and our thanks to everyone who made it possible.
Millie the Milford Regular
Millie the PAT dog is now a firm favourite at Milford and residents really look forward to her regular visits. Millie’s ever-cheerful character and wagging tail brings a smile to faces and everyone loves stroking her lovely soft fur. We can’t thank Ros enough for finding the time to bring Millie so regularly.
Gardens and Tea
Over the past weeks, we have been going on regular outings to all our favourite local garden centres for a bit of retail therapy, a tour of plants and gardens and, of course, tea and cakes. Our favourite recently has been this local venue that was showcasing these gorgeous large green garden ornaments. They were a great hit and; had we had room in the minibus, they would now be gracing our gardens!
