Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
All is Sweet
Sandi is now back at Milford and entertaining residents with a mixture of movement, song, poetry and more. Everyone was really getting into the swing of the session. Sandi will now be resuming her monthly visits and everyone is eagerly awaiting the next session.
A Summer of Art
Our current art exhibition at Milford features works from a number of our resident artists and all are works that have gained inspiration from our gardens be it the flowers, trees, birds, insects of the wider views of the garden. We love the different interpretations that each resident brings to their work and everyone at the home is enjoying stopping and viewing the lovely display.
ZooLab
Residents were treated to a visit from ZooLab and a wonderful array of creatures that included a corn snake, desert rat, giant land snail, giant millipede, giant cockroach and a tarantula, just to name a few!
Anyone who wanted to could get up close and personal with the animals and we all discovered that appearances and reputation can be very deceptive! In fact, everyone was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the corn snake was to touch but we didn’t have any takers for the tarantula!
Creating Special Memories
Milford held the first of its monthly 'Creating Memories' lunches. Residents joined together for a special lunch with a beautifully decorated table and delicious homemade food prepared by our chefs to share conversation, old memories and to create new memories. There were memory books for each resident to take away with them and this month the theme was pink. The lunch was deemed to be a huge success by everyone who attended and we are already eagerly awaiting news of next month’s event and trying to guess what the theme will be!
Fresh Air & Exercise
What better combination to enjoy is there than fresh air and exercise? Now brought to us in person again by Jackie. We are so pleased to be able to welcome Jackie back in person for our regular seated armchair exercise classes as, although we have been keeping fit via Zoom, having Jackie here in person to keep us up to our work is much better! We are also taking advantage of the nice weather to have our classes in the garden which is an added bonus.
Tiger Talk
Residents had a wonderful virtual visit to Dartmoor Zoo to see the tiger training live, followed by a Q&A session where we learned all about their fabulous Amur Tigers Dragan and Alisha.
This is just one of many virtual events that have been going on in the home, which have included visits to Knowsley Safari Park, Hereford Cathedral, Blenheim Place and the V&A Dundee just to name a few.
Some of the subjects covered have been Mary Quant, The Age of Ocean Liners and how Blenheim Palace contributed to the war effort – so a varied and diverse programme.
All talks are advertised via our Facebook page and anyone who is interested can ring the home to ask for a log in for a talk.
