Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for

National Tea Day Celebrations
What a great afternoon we had celebrating National Tea Day! The day featured a delicious tea prepared by our chefs with a variety of speciality teas available. The tables were looking as colourful and gorgeous as ever as we had a 'Best Dressed Tea Cup' competition which residents and the community had been busy entering during the course of the week.
At the end of the afternoon following voting by residents, staff and visitors, a winner of our tea cup competition was declared. The lovely entry, which featured a miniature shoe and flower toning with the tea cup, swept the board and the winner went away with a fabulous selection box of speciality teas to enjoy. There were a great range of entries with various themes including dinosaurs! There was conversation and laughter all round - what better way to celebrate Britain's favourite drink!
School Visit for Easter Bonnet Parade
Residents were delighted by the visit from the year 3 and 6 pupils from Vigo Primary School who found time in their busy end of term schedule to search for Easter Eggs in our gardens and show off their Easter Bonnets. Easter eggs were duly hunted down and eaten, and then the pupils showed off their bonnets with a parade where a winner was chosen and presented with an Easter chick of their own, which it was very generously decided that they would use as their choir mascot. Two residents were also celebrating birthdays and were given a chorus of 'happy birthday' by the classes which was a lovely touch. There was also a special moment that we loved when one resident was offered a bonnet to try on by one of the pupils and took them up on the suggestion with smiles all round!

Celebrating a Special Birthday in Style
We celebrated four birthdays in March here at Milford and we held a special joint tea party for family and friends in our front lounge to mark the occasion. It was particularly special for one resident who was 102 on the day of the party which made the afternoon even better! Some family members had come from London to join us and others equally far, and for some that weren't able to be there in person there was a video call from the party. The tea tables looked lovely, with delicious cakes made by chef Becky, there were small presents for each resident but without doubt the biggest gift of all was to be able to celebrate in the company of family and friends and to wish our ‘Queen for the Day’ a happy 102nd birthday!
A Special Easter Sunday
We had a great day at Milford as we celebrated Easter Sunday. The residents enjoyed their Easter eggs which arrived on their morning trays and staff were surprised with their own eggs brought in by a family member which was so thoughtful and went down at treat - thank you so much for thinking of everyone! In our festively decorated dining rooms Chef John served up a Sunday lunch treat with traditional roast lamb followed by that Milford must have - Baileys chocolate cheesecake with eggs! Family and friends visited, with some joining us for the meal and altogether it was a great day.
Residents Celebrate Nutrition & Hydration Week
Milford residents and staff rose to the Nutrition & Hydration challenge by holding a different event each day that highlighted the importance of good nutrition and hydration and how we can all improve our health and well-being by following some simple steps to incorporate good practice into our daily routines. The week’s activities included; a brilliant breakfast, time for tea Tuesday, super snacks, thirsty Thursday, fruity Friday, Six Nations smoothie Saturday .........and last but not least ...... Super Sundae! Supporting each event the residents did some, baking, mixing, blending and more as well as making collages and finding out facts about food and drink! What a delicious week all round!
