Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Café Society
Residents at Milford House are no exception when it comes to going out for coffee and cake! On a rather cold November morning, they made a short dash to our local superstore to get into the warm as quickly as possible and warmed up with a lovely cup of coffee.
Everyone enjoyed seeing all the Christmas goods, which are now firmly in the stores, with a huge variety available. We all agreed that we were definitely spoiled for choice!
Country Afternoon
We brought November to an end with a wonderful afternoon of country & western with Vanessa. We had a hand-clapping and toe-tapping afternoon; everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and went away singing and humming much-loved country classics.
Concert Fun
Residents at Milford House were delighted to experience another concert by Music in Hopitals & Care, and this time we welcomed Alex Betts and his guitar to the home. As well as playing guitar, Alex also sang a repertoire of well-known favourites that had everyone tapping their feet and joining in. He even produced some percussion instruments for everyone to use and, by the end of our session, everyone had worked up quite a thirst! We are so grateful to the Walter Guinness Charitable Trust – the sponsors that made this performance possible.
Preparing for Advent
Residents at Milford have been busy creating their advent calendar so that it will be ready to open on 1st December. With 24 items to prepare, everyone has been hard at work and we are really looking forward to getting it all put together. The final product will form the centre of our decorations in the conservatory, where we will be able to see it every day.
Great Expectations
Residents at Milford have been busy planting their Amaryllis bulbs and we have just brought the first batch indoors – hopefully they will be ready for Christmas. We have put them in the conservatory so that we can literally watch them grow in front of our eyes and anticipate which colour they are going to be. We have staggered our planting so that hopefully we will have blooms throughout the dark winter months to brighten our days.
Out & About
Here at Milford House, we look to get out with residents each week, whether it's for coffee, lunch or to visit a place of interest. Many residents love just popping round to the local shops, having a look at the special offers and then settling down for a nice cup of coffee and a cake in the restaurant. We are always grateful to our band of volunteers, who make this possible by accompanying us so that we can take as many residents as possible out on a regular basis.
