Activities at Mortain Place Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Alex Leftley
I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.
I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Life at Mortain Place Care Home
Something Fishy going on.
A trip to World of Water to pick up some new fishy friends was the order of the day. Residents living on memory lane recently asked for a fish tank. So that is exactly what they got. Its wonderful and very therapeutic to watch the colours and movement.
Sing a long
Song books at the ready and singing voices warmed up. Residents enjoyed an afternoon with a trip down memory lane. Singing to lots of old and new classics complete with words and instruments to get everyone involved.
Flower arranging fun
Some of the ladies at Mortain spent a lovely afternoon recently arranging flowers for the home. They chatted laughed and made some beautiful floral displays for everyone to enjoy.
Early Evening strolls
Mortain Place have a lively bunch of residents that really do celebrate life. They jump at the chance to take a walk in the early evening sun. Spending time chatting and getting those steps in.
Mini Bus Trips
Mortain Place are fortunate enough to have their own mini bus and they do love to use it. Just this week they have visited the Garden Centre for coffee and to buy plants for their raised beds. Then along to the beach for an evening stroll to enjoy the sound of the waves and soft summer breeze.
Gardening Club
The sun is out and so are our residents. Some of them enjoy nothing more than an afternoon pottering around our lovely gardens. Preening, potting and planting in our raised beds. They help support everyone and make it a fun, inclusive and very popular past time.
