Activities at Mount Tryon Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Hi, My name is Annmarie and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Mount Tryon Care Home. I am passionate about supporting our residents and supporting them to take part in person centered activities. Life at Mount Tryon Care Home

Mount Tryons Basketball match

This game of “basketball” originally started out as a drumming session. We put the gym balls into baskets and armed the residents with a pair of drumsticks each. The resident's loved it! The drumming and basketball game encouraged hand, eye co-ordination and brought out their competitive nature. We are looking forward to thinking up many uses of these large balls in the future. We are sure our resident's will come up with another inventive idea.

Joel, our Volunteer, learns from the expert.

This is Joel, our volunteer who visits our residents once a week to help out with activities.  This time it was the turn of our resident expert knitter to pass on her skills, instead of the other way round.  I’m sure we will be seeing Joel in his home knitted jumpers in the near future.  As Brucie said “didn’t he do well”.

St David's Day Celebrations.

The 1st of March, was all things Welsh at Mount Tryon.  We put up bunting and posters marking the day with the good old Welsh Dragon, Daffodils and Leeks .  We had a St David’s Day activity book we tasked the residents to have a go at.  A quiz was held in the common room, testing the residents  knowledge.  Ann Anderson, our Head of Housekeeping’s mother, made some delicious Welsh cakes, enjoyed by residents and staff alike.

Bird Feeders

You may have seen the RSPB promotions in the media.  We did too and set about making some bird feeders for the homes garden.  The act of making the feeder, made use of the creative and practical skills of some and gave them something constructive to do.  There is a plethora of the avian family that visit the garden, including, Robins, Sparrows.  finches, tits, blackbirds and our personal favourite Steven Seagull.  There isn't much the residents can do in this cold and wet wintry season, so being able to look out of the windows to watch the birds eagerly feeding from our feeders, brings a spark of joy to all.  The happy tweeting is such a pleasant sound too.

The Magic of Water - Aqua Painting.

Our residents love joining in with creative activities.  Just applying water to these pieces of paper, revealed lovely works of art.  Whilst the pictures were revealing, memories were revealed of the artists past.  It was lovely to be able to converse with them and find more out about the residents younger years.  This is definitely something we will do again in the near future.

Music & Movement

We had a lovely musical afternoon on Wednesday.  We handed out some percussion instruments - tambourines, maraca’s etc.  These items are easy for the residents to handle and play along with the music.  We had a lovely sing-a-long and those who could, got up and had a little dance, whilst those who couldn't, clapped and played their instruments.  It brightened up a rainy day and uplifted our residents moods greatly.  Our physiotherapist Irene joined in, along with care staff
