Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Happy anniversary

Our husband and wife residents, Richard and Barbara have recently celebrated 47 years of a happy marriage!  We surprised our lovely couple with a gorgeous cake baked and decorated by our Head Chef, Lee Starkey and presented them with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Happy anniversary from us all!

Wallace Collection

Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.

During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.

We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.

Raising funds for Alzheimer's

Staff and residents at Mulberry Court in York have taken part in a memory walk to raise money for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, which runs throughout September.

Staff, family and volunteers came together to push their residents in wheelchairs through their local community as the whole neighbourhood came together.  A local neighbour Cheryl Greenfield-Bell opened up her beautiful private gardens to the residents where they found an enchanted fairy forest hidden away.  With tea and coffee and gorgeous cakes supplied by both Mulberry Court and their local community it gave everyone the chance to get together and reminisce

Music through the ages

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.

National Cat Day

National Cat Day brought many smiles from our residents as one of our Senior Carers brought her much loved cat ‘Jasper’ in for a visit.  Jasper did a tour of the building visiting residents in their room for a little fuss, everyone loves Jasper!

Owl Awareness Day

It was Owl Awareness Day at Mulberry Court and what fun our residents had in our arts and crafts sessions making hanging owls from paper plates.  Afterwards we watched a fascinating documentary on these beautiful creatures.
