Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

National Trust talk

Our homes had a fantastic time joining National Trust Talks Service team at Cliveden House for an inspirational talk on Nancy Astor – the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons.

Our residents had the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating life of Nancy and her political career. As the first women MP, she experienced both attention and scandal throughout her life, which led to many triumphs and numerous disasters.  The talk was truly enjoyed by all.

Celebrations fit for a Queen

Excitement has been running high at Mulberry Court in York where residents and staff have been busy making Jubilee-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of head chef Lee Starkey in preparation for the Jubilee.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a fabulous garden party with live entertainment including a vocalist and a bagpipes player.  The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.

Ferndown florist demo

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays.  Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.

A trip to the pub

Residents enjoyed a lovely Friday afternoon in our local pub.  A few Sherries and glasses of wine with a lot of reminiscing of days and evenings spent in the pub over the years.

flower arranging in the garden

Residents took to the gardens and enjoyed a lovely afternoon basking in the sun whilst flower arranging.

International Nurses Day

Residents and staff had the opportunity to thank all nurses everywhere on International nurses day.  Residents watched a fascinating documentary on the history of the most famous nurse Florence Nightingale and all our nurses received a little thank you gift to pamper themselves with at home.
