Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

What's not to love about Chocolate!

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Mulberry Court care home had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year!

Overseen by the homes life enrichment team, staff and residents were served up a selection of different mouth-watering chocolate cakes from chocolate logs to cupcakes.

General Manager, Fiona Christie said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was an International Chocolate Cake Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – everyone loves chocolate cake and even better when there is a good excuse to eat it!”

Residents create their 'Van Goghs'

Residents at Mulberry Court celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 19thJanuary.

International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.

Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including creating their own versions of Van Gogh's sunflower.  Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.

Residents put on their 'blue suede shoes'

The king was in the building as residents celebrated what would have been Elvis’s 85th birthday with a fun-filled day of Elvis themed activities from baking buns (a popular activity of the home) adding Elvis’s faces on to complete the day and testing their knowledge with a specially prepared Elvis Quiz

Residents enjoy virtual activity with Toni

Residents of Mulberry Court enjoyed an fun filled interactive exercise session courtesy of Musical Toni, who held the session via Zoom to the delight of all.  The residents joined in with a few gentle armchair exercises with Toni singing a number of songs which saw residents toe-tapping along too.  They all enjoyed themselves and look forward to the next one!

The Vaccine Arrives at Mulberry

We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel. Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected. Above is Deputy Manager, Joshy Thomas, receiving his first jab.

Staff and residents amongst first to receive vaccine

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Mulberry Court care home, in York, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at York Medical group which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Fiona Christie said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”
