Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Sweet treats and a trip down Memory Lane

Today we thought we'd combine the Barchester live chocolate factory tour with a reminiscing and tasting session.   We discussed in length York’s two main chocolate producers Terry's and Rowntree’s.

We sat back and tuned in to be guided through the whole chocolate development process before reading and discussing fascinating facts about Terry's and Rowntree’s,

Most interesting information and facts came from John who we discovered had worked at Rowntree’s for a staggering 57 years!!!   The residents listened with great interest to his memories whilst sampling such iconic tasty treats as Kitkats, Lion bars, Yorkie bars and chocolate orange.

Harrogate Chocolate Factory

We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.

Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.

The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.

Beat the Clock

We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.

Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Trip down memory lane

Full of wonderful memories here at Mulberry Court - Barchester yesterday, with our lovely lady from the picturesque village of WHISTON, near Rotherham, sharing her family life memories.

At Mulberry Court, we encourage residents to forge new friendships and connections by reminiscing about fond memories with others in the home, which also helps our staff to provide more personalised care.

Thank you to our Ambassador Roy, for pulling together and hosting this fabulous ‘walk down memory lane’ activity.

Think the highlight of afternoon, which generated huge amounts of laughter and joy, was our Whiston lady talking about how she got into serious trouble using her mothers best baking tray to slide down an old quarry spoil heap!

A walk around the estate

The New Year barely behind us, but everyone at Mulberry Court - Barchester keen to explore the old Clifton Park Hospital Estate with its majestic trees and bountiful wild flowers.

You might think it a little early to be thinking about signs of spring. Normally you would be right, but it seems some of the wild flowers don’t seem to realise that, and already making an early appearance.

So……..taking advantage, off we went to seek inspiration in our award winning garden and surrounding estate.

Happy St Patrick's Day

Today the flags came out and the bunting went up to celebrate St Patrick's day in style. Over lunch the residents used their specially made place mats and admired the decorations, before heading into our cafe "Irish themed" bar area.... Dominos was the game of choice over of course a pint of Guinness before rounding off the afternoon with a handmade cake - Steve our head chef made a beautiful layered cake with green decoration to keep in with the theme.

It was so lovely to see our residents engaging with each other and staff a fun afternoon was had by all.
