Newlands Care Home in Workington

In its central location in Workington, Newlands has the best of both worlds: there are plenty of local amenities, yet it is within easy reach of the beautiful Lake District and the scenic Solway Coast. Newlands provides 24-hour nursing care to older people in need of support, including those living with dementia and people with mental health needs.

Dementia Care

The home's specialist Memory Lane Community utilises a careful blend of skills and techniques developed by leading experts in the field of dementia care, incorporating person-centred design in its use of colour and cues to help individuals navigate through the home, whilst thoughtful interior design features, such us adapted crockery and tableware assists with reminiscence. Communities are broken up into separate units with a family feel so people can feel safe and comfortable. Care is focused on independence, dignity and choice, with a person-centred approach. Staffing levels reflect the needs of residents, and people living with dementia are offered a range of activities to help preserve life skills, support interactions and retain a sense of purpose and selfhood.

We have a highly skilled mix of nursing and care staff who work hard to provide diverse and person-centred care. We also maintain relationships with members of multi-disciplinary teams within the community to ensure that residents in our care are supported to the highest standard on our general nursing, memory lane and specialist units, including the Parkinson’s Society, Alzheimer’s Society and local schools.

Our purpose-built home benefits from a high standard of décor, featuring all en-suite rooms, landscaped gardens and modern facilities to welcome residents, relatives and friends. We also have the Lakelands Unit here at Newlands, which provides more complex care.

Why not arrange a visit, or drop in and experience what Newlands has to offer for yourself?

Kim Whelan

General Manager

Hello, my name is Kim, and I am the General Manager here at Newlands. Welcome to our website!

I have worked for Barchester since January 2019. I relocated here to Workington from County Durham. I have been a registered nurse since 1982, and I have worked predominantly in the social sector in nursing and care homes. I have a special interest in working with people who are living with dementia.

Here at Newlands, we endeavour to enhance the lives of all of our residents. We are proud of the care we offer and would be delighted to show you around our home.

I would like to introduce to my lovely team, and look forward to meeting you.
