Activities at Newlands Care Home

Activities within our home are tailored around the requests of residents. Our Activities Coordinator holds regular activity meetings to seek new thoughts and ideas. The home is committed to offering a varied range of activities for all residents, from hand and nail care to gardening for those who have green fingers. We carry out reminiscence activities, including planned entertainment days, bringing the seaside into the home or dance hall meetings.

We hold strong links with the community, especially schools and local children's sports teams, who visit the home to provide entertainment and engagement with residents. We also maintain relationships with the church to ensure that residents’ spiritual beliefs are met. Externally, we have our own minibus, and outings are planned and carried out, again tailored to residents’ preferences, whether it be shopping, visits to the local pub, tea and coffee afternoons, or a scenic day out in the lakes and lovely countryside that surrounds us. However, the fun does not stop at the residents we care for, but we also hold events to involve family and the wider community.

Life at Newlands Care Home

,

Valentine's Day

The home was filled with roses, balloons, cards and chocolates in celebration of St Valentine’s Day.  Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by having a valentine’s afternoon tea party. There was great entertainment from our local resident singer Sam who kept everyone on their feet.

General Manager, Kim Whelan, said: “Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones and had a great time. We’ve had a whole range of treats and a Valentine’s afternoon tea party with lots of entertainment and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”

Workington Academy

The students and staff from Workington Academy brought a lovely Christmas hamper for our residents which was well received by our General Manager, Kim Whelan. They were lots of lovely treats and activity packs which our residents will enjoy. We are so grateful to our community for the support and love.

Elf day

The elf's are out to work and play. Santa's li'l helpers were ready to spread the spirit of Christmas. Residents and staff were in such a jolly good mood and excited for what Christmas brings (joy, love and spirit of giving).

They also took the opportunity to fundraise and bring awareness for the Alzheimer's Society.

Christmas Dinner

There was a lovely Christmas buzz at Newlands Care Centre, the atmosphere was beautiful, with so much fun and laughter, so much joy in the air and you could not mistake it for any other day. All the staff worked really hard to make it a special Christmas Day for the residents, their families and friends. Families came through to spend some time with their loved ones, some of the residents had an opportunity to go out with their families thus giving them an excuse to dress up.

A breath of fresh air

Some of our residents (Jimmy and Barry) visited nearby Wellington farm for some lunch and to see the animals. The weather was no match for them as they had lots of fun.

Enjoying afternoon tea

It was a lovely afternoon taking the gentlemen out for a nice lunch at the local restaurant. They ordered their favourites and chatted over some drinks. It was indeed a lovely " time out."
