Activities at Pentland View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Resident Recognised for Community Service

Don, Resident at Pentland View recently went  out collecting for the Poppy Appeal at the homes local Tesco’s. Don joined the RAF volunteer reserve when he was 17 having enjoyed an interest in flying from a very early age and with a fascination of how things could stay in the air. Don was called up for service on September 10th 1939 and qualified as a pilot in 1940.

He served in the 235 Squadron, the 57 Squadron and the 7 Squadron where the first 4 engine heavy bomber, the Short Stirling flew from.  He spent 8-months in hospital after being wounded in 1941 before he returned as a navigator to Bomber Command.  Don was demobilised on September 17th 1946 and was recently awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community.

Pentland Shoebox

Pentland View has been a hive of activity over the past few weeks, as staff, residents, families and friends have been getting involved in the Blythswood Christmas Showbox Appeal. The boxes are filled with useful gifts, such as toiletries, toys, sweets, stationary and small items of clothing and given to children and adults in need in countries such as Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and the Ukraine. These gifts make a high difference to the lives of people who would otherwise not receive any gifts at Christmas.

Morag Lindsay, General Manager, said: “We wanted to share the true Christmas spirit and help people and put a smile on their face this Christmas. Residents loved decorating the old shoeboxes, and I would like to say thank you to everyone who supported us with donations large and small!”
