Activities at Rose Lodge Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Horse Racing Afternoon

Today, Activities Lead Jane and Volunteer Cheryl bought the Grand Nationals to Rose Lodge. Residents got prepared with a fabulous lunch wearing their chosen Ladies Hats before the big race in the afternoon.

Everyone gathered in the lounge and each resident had a booklet to choose their special horse. The lounge was a buzz with excitement as the horses sprinted towards the finish line on the TV. During the nail biting events everyone enjoyed scrumptious refreshments and chocolates while reminiscing.

Resident Vera shared with us all that she always used to place a bet on the Grand Nationals and loved reliving this experience with everyone.

Cocktail Making

To mark World Cocktail Day, residents were joined by a local, family-owned and run distillery, Fenspirits. Residents and staff were fascinated by Owner Anthony's talk and enjoyed learning about their history and of course, trying an array of interesting and delicious spirits and cocktails. Tesco's Community Champion Julie, joined us and helped us give the delicious drinks names.

Resident Vera reminisced about running a pub and shared fond memories of making cocktails for the ladies.

Aqua Painting

Residents had a delightful time painting with Aqua Paints this week. These wonderful templates are designed to create conversation and support creativity and cognitive skills. The Aqua paints have a simple clear black outline of the image to help guide the painter, which makes them perfect with those living with dementia.

The results are absolutely beautiful and residents loved seeing the white pages come to life with water. Once these vibrant images were displayed, we loved reminiscing and sharing stories about them.

Ruby, a resident said, "I remembered these prams like it was yesterday".

Head Housekeeper celebrates 10-years Long Service

Head of Housekeeping at our home has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.  Jackie Watson, now Head of Housekeeping, started at Barchester in April 2014 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Megan Jones, General Manager said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of loyal service with Jackie. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Rose Lodge when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Jackie!”

Come sing!

Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.

Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.

Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
