Activities at Rothsay Grange Care Home

The activities coordinators at Rothsay Grange work 7 days a week to ensure there is a variety of planned group and one to one activities to suit all individual needs. The activities consist of weekly running activities such as chair zumba, Music therapy, an Arts club and many more. We also run a weekly minibus trip to local places of interest giving everyone a chance to have a trip out of the home.

Rothsay Grange also knows how to have a good old tea party alongside some fantastic entertainers and productions that visit the home on a regular basis. Irene and Aimee feel its very important to have the residents that live here to have a fun and fulfilled life and encourage them to attend as many activities as they wish.

Irene & Leah

Activities Coordinators

Irene and Leah have been working together since 2019, and thoroughly enjoy planning and providing activities for our residents. They are a great team and always bring joy and fun to wherever they are in the home.

Leah has worked at Rothsay since she was 16, as an apprentice carer, and has worked her way into a position that she loves.

Irene has many years’ experience in working with vulnerable adults and children, and also started working here as a care assistant several years ago, before moving on to senior carer and then into the activities coordinator role.

Both love seeing the way that residents' lives are enriched with the activities they provide, and love interacting with all the residents in our care.

World Chocolate Day

The best day of the year, World Chocolate Day! We celebrated this day with all things chocolate. From chocolate cake, chocolate biscuits, chocolate puddings, chocolates to try and best of all a chocolate fountain to dip some lovely fruit and marshmallows in!

We had a talk about how sweets and chocolate had been rationed in war time and after. The residents told tales of the yummy little bags of goodies brought with an old penny. Some of us had not had to have our sweets rationed so were amazed at how little they could have. We all told stories about the first time we could remember buying or choosing sweets and chocolate. We all had a great day as I’m sure you can see in the pictures!

Cosmic Sparkle

Cosmic Sparkle

One of our favourite singers, Cosmic Sparkle came to home recently to perform for residents. As always she shone bright like a diamond and sang songs that the residents could sing along too. The residents love to see what dress she will turn up in. As always the time was against us, and all the tea and cake was finished by the time it was the last song. We will welcome back Cosmic Sparkle on Tuesday 14th August so please come along and join us all with tea and cake and a good old sing along. All our welcome!

Armed Forces Day and National Cream Tea Day

Armed Forces Day and National Cream Tea Day

We celebrated Armed Forces Day and National Cream Team Day together this year. To celebrate we had a visit from 'Wings of Freedom' who came along to show off a selection of birds and tell us about them. One owl only had one wing after an accident but still stole the show. We were also blessed to the lovely mayor’s assistant and an ex-Mayor of Andover, sadly the mayor could not make it due to other duties.  The residents enjoyed hearing about the birds and how they were rescued as well as lots of other fun facts about the birds. We also enjoyed cream teas made by our head chef as well as the residents who made them in the baking club in the morning so we could see whose scones turned out better! In the end we couldn't decide between the two!

Paul Nickolas entertains

Paul Nickolas entertains

Monday 25th June saw Rothsay Grange welcome back an old favourite of the homes, Paul Nickolas. Paul has a great voice and able to sing a range of songs. This time he treated us to a great mixture of songs he had done before and lots of new ones. Such as hits from the 50s and 60s, good old rock and roll always go down well here. The residents and staff can be seen singing along with him clapping their hands and tapping the toes. This time Paul sang some new songs for us from the theatre shows such as Miss Saigon. This being a new song from him and a great treat for us and we were all blown away with it. Paul’s voice is so good we never want him to leave but sadly the hour was gone too fast and the end was upon us before we knew it. Paul is a regular here so if you would like to join us for his next visit please do 7th August at 2:30pm there will be plenty of tea and coffee and home-made cake and biscuits from our onsite chefs.

Little Joe Returns

Little Joe Returns

We welcomed back Little Joe on 20th June. The lights were turned down low, the disco ball was on and we were transported back to the '50s, where poodle skirts and bobby socks were a must-have.

Residents got into the swing of things as Little Joe sang. They were non-stop clapping and singing along. As always, Little Joe was fantastic; he sang songs from the '50s, '60s and more recent eras.

Father's Day

Father's Day

We marked Father's Day by having a games afternoon with a high tea. The men and the ladies came down to celebrate in style. We started off with a gentle game of chair golf and there was also a giant balloon game, large dominoes and a reminiscence sessions. Residents told lots of lovely stories about how they used to celebrate Father's Day with their dads.

We ended the afternoon with a smashing high tea of small sandwiches and lots of cakes and biscuits, all made by our onsite Chefs.
