Activities at Shelburne Lodge Care Home

We travelled to our adventure today on our mini bus and a limousine provided by David Silveys and driven by Amber, who volunteered her services. We are so grateful to her and David Silveys.

The Rivertime Boat Trust offers an accessible boat trip on the River Thames for our care home residents, and those with reduced mobility. This custom 42-foot passenger boat named Rivertime features a hydraulic wheelchair lift, an accessible toilet and a sliding roof.

The route was from Henley-on-Thames to Bisham Abbey near Marlow, and we brought our own picnic including prosecco and wine, creamy cakes and enjoyed a 1st class treat.    

We brought the excitement of Wimbledon to Shelburne Lodge with a fantastic themed afternoon full of fun, laughter, and delicious treats!

Our residents enjoyed refreshing strawberries, sparkling drinks, and watched the tennis while reminiscing about Wimbledon tournaments from years gone by. There were plenty of smiles as everyone got involved, posed with tennis rackets and embraced the spirit of one of Britain’s most iconic sporting events.

Events like these are a wonderful way to spark conversations, encourage social interaction, and create meaningful moments together. It was a truly enjoyable afternoon that everyone served up with a smile! 
 

What a fantastic way to spend the bank holiday! Our residents were joined by family and friends for a fun-filled Bingo afternoon, full of laughter, smiles, and a little friendly competition.       

It was wonderful to see everyone coming together, creating special moments and making memories. Well done to all our winners… and to those who were so close!

We had the pleasure of celebrating Roy's incredible 94th birthday surrounded by residents and staff. 

It was a wonderful occasion filled with laughter, smiles, and special memories as everyone came together to make Roy's day truly memorable. Celebrating such a remarkable milestone with those who care about him made the day even more special.

We hope Roy enjoyed every moment of his special day and felt the love and best wishes from everyone around him.

We were delighted to welcome our local police officers to our home to deliver an informative and engaging talk on scam awareness.

Residents learnt about the different types of scams, how to recognise the warning signs, and practical ways to stay safe and protect themselves from fraud. The session sparked some great discussions, with residents asking questions and sharing their own experiences. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our local police officers for taking the time to visit us and provide such valuable advice. Helping our residents feel informed, confident, and safe is incredibly important, and we greatly appreciate their support.

Chocolate brownies on offer are baked by our chef, Paula. Bribery I hear! Well, if it encourages our residents and families to complete the survey privately and in the privacy of the garden lounge. 

Why not we are proud of our care and our home! It was so lovely for families to share their remarks after they’ve completed the survey and let us know that the survey reflects on how well and caring we are and how well we are doing!    

What an incredible day our residents had as they proudly represented Shelburne Lodge at the Barchester Sports Day, kindly hosted by our friends at Chorleywood Beaumont Care Community.

The day was filled with fun, friendly competition, laughter, and teamwork as our staff and residents took part in a variety of sporting challenges and games. Everyone gave it their all, cheered each other on, and celebrated every achievement along the way. The smiles, determination, and enthusiasm shown by our residents and staff members, made us incredibly proud!

Events like these are a wonderful opportunity to stay active, build confidence, make new friendships, and enjoy time with residents and colleagues from other Barchester homes.

A huge well done to all of our residents and staff for their fantastic efforts, and thank you to our amazing team for their encouragement and support throughout the day. 

A special thank you to everyone at Chorleywood Beaumont Care Community for organising such a fantastic event and for making us feel so welcome. We all had an amazing time and are already looking forward to the next Sports Day! 
 

A fantastic day out for our tennis enthusiasts! 

Some of our residents enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Open Day at Coleshill Tennis Club.

It was a great opportunity to soak up the atmosphere, watch some tennis, and reminisce about favourite matches and players. There were plenty of smiles, fresh air, and even a bit of sporting inspiration!

Picnic – Friday lunchtime – Jane, our resident ambassador, community picnic continues …

Throughout the summer months, Jane’s friends from Wycombe organised a picnic which they held in Shelburne Lodges garden. Now the weather is not so bright, it was held in the dining room and it was still a great success. Thank you for organising and making the getting together, and making the picnic social for Jane so wonderful.

Lili’s 89th birthday party – Friday lunchtime was Lili's 89th birthday lunch – Her wish was to spend the day with her family and her family made sure they made it very special for her …

Her comment was, “It was such a wonderful day."   

BBQ season was back in full swing (yay) We fired up the grill in our garden for Shelburne Lodges BBQ party and what a fantastic time we had with residents, loved ones and our local community.

A really enjoyable garden party with lots of yummy classics, burgers, sausages salads, chef’s famous potato salad, green leaf salad, sweetcorn on the cob followed by fresh summer fruits. There’s nothing like good food, friends and family to bring everyone together not forgetting the music from the ‘Turf Tappers ‘ playing a medley of songs to dance and to sing along to including some very funny sea shanty songs.

We’ve teamed up with Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country to bring some fun, interactive “Beat the Clock” games to life!     

Residents and staff have been putting their skills to the test — from quick thinking to teamwork — all while having lots of laughs along the way.

It’s been a fantastic way to stay connected, boost wellbeing, and bring a bit of friendly competition into our day.

We all had such a fantastic time.

Today our residents enjoyed a delicious Fish and Chips Day, freshly prepared by our wonderful chef, Alex. The meal was a huge success, with beautifully cooked fish, golden chips, and plenty of happy smiles around the dining room. 

A big thank you to our amazing chef, Alex, for creating such a fantastic dish and making mealtimes so special for our residents. The care, skill, and dedication that go into every meal are truly appreciated.

Good food brings people together, and today was a wonderful opportunity for residents to enjoy a traditional favourite and spend time together.
