"My Aunty has spent three years in this home and if she would have taken part in all the activities it would have been lovely. I did manage to get her down a few times. The care my Aunty got was excellent and she was not that easy. The staff understood her difficult ways and sometimes she got cross because they did not come when she bussed. We told her she was not the only one in here. The last two weeks of the end of life care from all the staff was amazing. Thank you so much."

"My father is a resident here, and we as a family are thrilled with the level of care and support that he is receiving. He is cared for with dignity and respect and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The rooms are homely and the food is excellent. Overall I wouldn't want my father to be anywhere else during the last few weeks/months."

"My husband is bedbound, he is seldom awake except at mealtimes and when his carers wash him etc. He cannot move himself at all but relies on the very kind, efficient, cheerful carers who take care of him."

"Visiting from overseas I was nervous as to what to expect for my first visit to Shelburne. I shouldn't have worried. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff who clearly care for the residents. Their compassion is reflected in a happy group of residents. I can now leave knowing that my mother is in excellent hands, which is very reassuring. Thank you."

"My mother was admitted at short notice less than 24 hours after her husband died and the reception was exceptional. She was welcomed with compassion and understanding. Almost immediately, we noticed an improvement in her general behaviour. She became responsive and more alert. She has eaten well and put on weight. We would recommend a Barchester home to others without hesitation and would like to thank the staff and management for what they have done for mum."

"My neighbour went into Shelbourne Lodge originally as a respite resident but things took a turn for the worse and it was apparent that she would not be returning home. The staff were absolutely fantastic. They took great care of my friend with tenderness and respect. They were also very kind and in the early days, allowed her to have her meetings in the home with her "Sparkles" group."

"When walking up to the front entrance, I could see how well maintained the grounds and pathways were. I was greeted upon entering the main doors and made to feel very welcome with an offer of tea/coffee and some cake. Everywhere I looked was clean and well kept. I was shown all around and even saw some empty rooms. They have a wonderful menu and a lovely garden with plenty of wildlife to see. Everyone said good afternoon when I passed them, it is such a lovely, peaceful place, a real home from home."

"What started as a journey of fear has turned into a time of thanksgiving and deep gratitude for the wonderful gift to a very sick man and his wife. Peace and kindness from every person working at Shelburne Lodge Care Home."

"When my husband was due to move from hospital, I was so worried as I'd visited many places not too good. Shelburne Lodge was a joy to me. So friendly, so caring and his room is so cosy with his own bathroom. My husband is very happy there, loves the food and the residents love him. Such a help to me at this sad and worrying time."

"My husband spent the last week of his life receiving 24 hour nursing care at Shelburne Lodge. All staff were very caring, but two team members deserve a particular mention: the deputy manager was wonderful - going well above and beyond. She was so compassionate and caring and treated my husband with the utmost dignity and respect. Nothing was ever too much trouble. She cared for our family as well as my husband and we will always remember her kindness. In addition, the maintenance manager was great. He was called upon several times to facilitate a change of room and adjustments to my husband’s bed. We found him to be friendly, efficient and very supportive. I would not hesitate to recommend Shelburne Lodge."

"The care given to my wife was in everyday words excellent. I feel that her last days were as comfortable a stay as the home could make it. I could not wish for better myself."

"My father was admitted 11 months ago. We chose the Shelbourne Lodge following my mother-in-law's 18 month period here of which we were very satisfied and during which she was extremely happy. My father is well cared for and looked after. Although bedridden, he is very content and we, the family feel he is safe and well looked after."

"I have both nan's in 2 different care homes. This one is in a different league. My nan is very happy here and we are so pleased that we can see her care is 100%. The range of activities is amazing, keeping her busy and entertained. The choice of meals feels like she is at a hotel. Would recommend this care home to anybody."

"My mother was cared for at Shelburne after she was admitted into hospital with depression and malnutrition after the death of my father. I cannot fault the care she received at Shelburne which was compassionate and caring. She was treated with the utmost dignity at all times. We are grateful for the care she received."

"I like it because it's friendly and I get on with everybody - I'm making good friends with residents and staff. The food is good and varied and you can always have something else if you don't want what's on the menu. The care I get is very good - my wife was in another home in Wycombe and it was awful, but Shelburn Lodge is very good and I am very happy to call it my home now."

"My mother has only been at Shelburne Lodge for a couple of months - she is now more settled and has made a good friend. My experience is that most of the staff seem very friendly and caring. The food seems of good quality and there seems to be a good standard of cleanliness. There also are some good activities which she joins in with."

"Home was closed to visitors in March/April due to illness. Since then my aunt has complained she's not washed every day and when she is, not properly. She wears incontinent pads because she can't get to the toilet! Bed pans are not available. I have noticed from day one, the lack of staff. Aunt should be getting the £112 allowance, after nearly a year she's still not receiving it. Yet her fee went up by £80 in April, apart from when my aunt became ill on the 24.6.16. The assistant manager acted quickly and efficiently. The management are very distant."

"My Mum is very happy there and well looked after."

Anne T
carehome.co.uk rating: 4.92 out of 5

"Whilst there are some genuinely caring members of staff, most are apathetic or worse. The home is almost permanently understaffed to the point that residents have to wait to be taken to the toilet, to have pads changed, or to be fed. They do not have the time to get 'more difficult' residents out of bed, dress them, or, by the look of it, wash them half the time! Staff turnover recently has been very high, probably due to the abrupt, difficult manager. The standard of food has been variable due to the changes in kitchen staff but is now reasonable. We have had numerous problems with promises that things would be done, but they have not. Activities used to be very good, but the home no longer has an activities coordinator; someone else who left!"

"Mum has been here for a couple of months and I have found everything to be great so far. Clean, tidy and helpful staff. The only concern is that the front door never seems to be locked so anyone can walk in."

"I have not found a sad person working here, all staff say hello and it is kept very clean and tidy. I have not eaten here but it looks good, always drink and cakes for guests. All rooms look like they have a view onto gardens. If I was taken ill, I would like to be there."

"On a visit, my daughter remarked 'it's like a hotel and she would love to end up here'. My resident mother, widowed since 1985, is the happiest I have ever seen her. The company of others has raised her spirits enormously. I can't recommend Shelburne Lodge enough."

"My mother has not looked this well cared for in ages, very clean and even nail varnish on. At home, she had a carer visiting but not much time spent so very basic."

"My mother in law moved to the home in December 2017. The service she received when she arrived was lovely. The staff are friendly and go out of there way to help you if you are not sure about something. The manager helped us very much in the run up to her moving in. Showing us the home and her room which was very clean and decorated beautifully. Mother in law can be very stubborn at times but the staff are very understanding. Well done all."

"Us as a family have been very impressed with the care that our family member has received since moving in. All members of staff are friendly and approachable. Nothing has every been any trouble for them regarding care or advice/support for us or our family member. Thank you all very much. Keep up the good work."

"On the whole we are pleased and satisfied with the care our mum receives. Sometimes she is left in bed until mid-morning before getting washed. However, we appreciate there are many residents and emergencies can crop up."

"All staff, nurses, etc in the day are most caring and helpful to my husband who is unable to get out of bed and do anything for himself. They are always there to help him and for our family. There have been just a couple of times when night staff have not been found and he did ask them to be more gentle with him, but I cannot fault the day staff at all."
