Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Our Life Enrichment English National Ballet Afternoon!

What a wonderful experience we all had yesterday as we joined the English National Ballet for the last night of the proms

The music was truly remarkable! Some of our ladies here enjoyed a glass of bubbly whilst enjoying the tremendous sounds of the instruments.

We are very lucky to have such a fantastic Life Enrichment team to plan enjoyable events like this throughout the pandemic and still now.

A truly delightful afternoon here at Tennyson Wharf.

Housekeeping Appreciation Week

Housekeeping appreciation week

Yesterday staff and residents gathered as Christine, our resident embasador, presented our lovely housekeeping team with some thank you gifts. Christine thanked the housekeeping team for all their hard work and dedication and we all joined in with a huge round of applause

Residents made the most of being all together for the occasion as they enjoyed a chat over some wonderful refreshments thanks to our amazing kitchen team.

Meet our Animal Sponsors!

Residents at Tennyson Wharf were pleased to receive their first updates from our sponsor animals.

Henry, our sponsor donkey is partially sighted and won't go to sleep without a cuddle. He loves to spend his days with his friend Tiny Tim.

Derek, our guide dog sponsor is a beautiful golden labrador who loves to play with his toys who will shortly begin the process of learning to support someone with sight loss

Bella, our hearing dog puppy sponsor is such a beautiful girl who stemmed many happy memories of our own pet dogs

We all enjoyed reading about our sponsor animals and learning all about them and the training that they will do as well as reminiscing about our own pets.

Such a heart warming afternoon here at Tennyson Wharf

Making the most of the last few days of summer!

We are really making the most of the last few days of summer here at Tennyson Wharf!

New resident couple enjoyed an afternoon in the sun overlooking the beautiful marina spending time outside making paperchains, knitting, chatting and listening to the sounds and taking in the beautiful sites around us.

They have really been enjoying their respite stay here at Tennyson Wharf - to book your respite stay, get in touch today on 01522 530282!

We are so incredibly lucky to have the wonderful view of the marina from our patio area. It really is a terrific site to see.

National Read a Book Day - with the Times!

Tennyson Wharf work with what they are given! Just like last year we were still not allowed to see our lovely school children from our local school in the same room. This year though, Tennyson Wharf were reluctant to be stopped so they made full use of their visiting suite!

Two local school children came to visit us this afternoon to read us one of their favourite stories, Three Billy Goats Gruff.

The children read beautifully and we really enjoyed listening to their story.

English National Ballet celebrate International youth day with Us!

CARE HOME RESIDENTS CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY WITH ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Tennyson Wharf care home in Burton Waters were treated to a unique performance from English National Ballet to celebrate International Youth Day on August 12.

Prior to the day itself, members of English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo, and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange, asked residents to submit their memories of going to see films over the years.  The cast then used these evocative descriptions, along with Arielle Smith’s digital production of Jolly Folly, as inspiration for their performance.

On the day, residents were able to watch a performance of A Comedy in Long-shot, a dance film performed by ENBYouthCo, participate in a chair-based, creative dance workshop along with the cast and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by the residents’ childhood memories.

Fleur Derbyshire-Fox, English National Ballet’s Director of Engagement said: “We are delighted to be sharing the work of our youth dance company, exploring the memories of Barchester residents’ trips to the cinema and uniting different generations of people together in one creative space.  We hope these unique sessions will provide an uplifting experience and connect residents with the joy of dance and live music.”

Lucy Tomlinson, Resident Experience Manager for Barchester Healthcare, commented: ““We love working with our wonderful partners like English National Ballet to bring a wide range of fantastic experiences into our homes for all to enjoy.  The session today was fantastic, our residents loved watched the talented young dancers perform.

“Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active and socially connected, providing a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities,” Lucy added.
