Activities at Tennyson Wharf Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rebecca Harrowing

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Rebecca, I started working at Tennyson Wharf in July 2024.

Previous to starting at Tennyson Wharf I have lived in many countries and worked as a supply teacher and administrator in Bahrain in the Middle East - I have also worked in scouting programme groups in both the USA and UK.

Whilst I have worked with children for a lot of my life, working with the elderly is always been something I have been passionate about. I believe that everybody has a story to tell and our residents life stories all add value to Tennyson Wharf.

Outside of work I enjoy walking, gardening and going to the cinema.

Story time from Newton On Trent C of E Primary School

The children from Newton on Trent C of E Primary School recently spent time looking at the well known book, The Hobbit which inspired the children to get to work creating their own tremendous stories based on what they had read

The stories they wrote turned into a great book club session on our memory lane community and the residents all agreed that they children did a great job using their skills in their story writing. We felt privileged that the children chose to share their stories with us here at Tennyson Wharf and look forward to our next engagement with the school

Tennyson Wharf's Christmas Fete

Our Christmas fete was a great success last week!

With an amazing range of talented craft makers coming along to sell their wonderful items as well as Quayside Gifts.

Residents, relatives and staff thoroughly enjoyed having a browse and purchasing lots of fantastic items. As it was Christmas jumper day, the lovely stall holders donated some funds and we held a tombola stall. In total we managed to raise £55 for Save the Children!

It was a wonderful afternoon enjoyed by all

Santa came to Visit!

Something a little different for us here at Tennyson Wharf this afternoon courtesy of our lovely community

Residents and staff gathered outside to see Santa arrive on a boat and make great use of our beautiful marina view!

We all enjoyed a chat with Santa before he jumped back on his boat to go and visit others in the community.

We ended the visit with a little sing along of 'Santa Clause is coming to town'

Singing and dancing along to the talented entertainer that visited us here at Tennyson Wharf

Everyone had such a fantastic time swaying along and reminiscing along to the music. We even snuck in a Christmas song or two

Music is a great way to improve moods, bring back happy memories, encourage socialising, and overall promote mental and physical health and we really do enjoy an musical event here
