Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Talent always shines through!

Generations appreciated each other’s many talents at a Karaoke show hosted at the Thistle Hill care home.

The home in Knaresborough held a Karaoke show as part of a celebration of ‘Musical Icon’s’ where residents and colleagues came to perform and watch their older counterparts showcase their party pieces and fancy dress, too.

The Afternoon saw a visit by home favourite singer Rochelle Ayris, as she entertained our residents with the songs by classic icons, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day and the Beatles.

General manger at the Thistle Hill care home. Care home, said “It is always wonderful to hold intergeneration events as everyone learns a lot and sometimes new skills are picked up by both groups.”

Virtual Cruise Experience at Thistle Hill

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

Wine tasting virtual event

We had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests Lee Isaacs DipWSET and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.

Our residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious treats.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Fiesta time at Thistle Hill

Staff and residents at the Thistle Hill Care Centre celebrated Mexican Independence Day on September 15th in style by hosting a day of Mexican themed events and games featuring a flight simulator, Mexican bingo, a Mexican-inspired fiesta with mariachi music, salsa dancing and delicious Mexican delicacies prepared by our fabulous head chef.

Every year on September 15th, the bells of every town square in Mexico sound to remember that in Dolores Hidalgo, a town in Mexico, in the early morning of the 16th of September 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Catholic Priest known as Father Hidalgo, made the first cry for Independence from Spain who were the rulers at the time.  So, between the 15th and 16th of September (Midnight of the 15th of September), Mexicans celebrate the moment of insurgency, the possibility, and the hope for Freedom in their country. It was the moment that defined their National identity.

Our Residents began the day by checking in their passports and boarding our virtual plane. Using Microsoft Flight Simulator our residents departed from Leeds Bradford Airport and were able to take in it turns flying the plane towards the shores of Mexico.

A visit by Mr Fox for Roald Dahl Day

Residents were visited by the fantastic Mr Fox as they celebrated the life and stories of the great Roald Dahl.

Residents reminisced over their favourite stories, enjoyed screenings of the fantastic Mr Fox and listened to book readings from the authors work.

Last night of the Proms

We celebrated Last Night of the Proms virtually with members of English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Gavin Sutherland.

We listened and danced along as members of the orchestra took us on a magical, musical journey. English National Ballet Philharmonic is made up of many of the country’s top musicians, and boasts considerable experience in all forms of music-making. With insights and anecdotes into what it takes to conduct an orchestra for a world-class ballet company, this special concert got our feet tapping, arms waving and hearts singing!

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
