Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Thistle Hill Life Enrichment Team

Activities Team

Ursula and Katie make up our fantastic Activities Team here at Thistle Hill.

They develop and oversee an active living programme for each resident, which encourages mobility, social contact, independence and fun. Each and every person can thrive and live to their full potential with no day ever being the same. They bring great enthusiasm and spark to the home and have one passion, which is to deliver an amazing and vibrant activities programme to cater to all tastes and abilities.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home

Elvis Day

Thistle Hill Care Centre in Knaresborough was transformed into Graceland to mark what would have been Elvis Presley’s 86th birthday on 8 January.

Residents enjoyed an American dining experience courtesy of our Head Chef Paul. Followed by an afternoon musical performance by the king himself.

New Year's Eve

Thistle Hill Care Centre’s New Year’s Eve party was in full swing with glittering outfits, party games, karaoke and lots of sparkling refreshments.

Residents enjoyed cocktails and a festive feast prepared by head chef, Paul Drinkel.

A fabulous time was had by all as our welcomed in the New Year.

Mirror, Mirror on the wall

In a landslide vote that was never in any doubt, we're thrilled to announce that Darren has won the crown of "Miss Thistle Hill". With his long blue locks, beautiful dress and... unicorn horn.. Darren was truly the fairest damsel of them all!  Back to today in our home, Barchester has partnered with 'Oomph Wellbeing' an organisation which shares our aspirations in providing well being and life enrichment to our residents with an extensive resource of online activities, including arts and crafts activities, video events and a constantly updated selection of activity books and much more.

Oomph fun

It was another day of Oomph themed fun on Memory Lane as our residents set about creating their very own disco ball ahead of our new year's eve party on Friday.

Some of our other residents were able to enjoy the tranquility of our sensory room, with the sounds of mindfulness music playing softly in the background, the sight of fish swimming along the floor, our residents were able to unwind and relax.

Festivities in full swing at Thistle Hill!

On the build up to Christmas, there is only one event that comes second to the big day and that is our Residents Christmas Parties!

For the first time each unit held their party on the same day before coming together for an afternoon of fun and laughter.

Whilst Mark, Daria and their festive helpers got set up for the party, our residents enjoyed a special virtual performance of the Nutcracker by the English National Ballet Company.

A huge thank you must go to our wonderful team in the kitchen who put on a fabulous buffet spread for the whole home.

There was fun and laughter on every unit and it was a fabulous team effort across the home!

Christmas Jumper Day

Residents and colleagues embraced the fun of Christmas jumper day, wearing their most fabulous or not so fabulous jumpers, everyone had a fun day.

The day of festive fun was rounded of by a lively musical performance featuring Richard Stirland and Honey the dog.
