Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Zoe Aldea

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Zoe and I am the Activities Lead at Wadhurst Manor.

I used to work with veterans for the Royal British Legion, and as an Art Studio Lead for a wonderful charity that built a village for people with learning disabilities.

I believe in the healing power of art, I feel strongly about building confidence and  the wellness of our residents. My hobbies include Asian art and philosophy, acupuncture, yoga and martial arts. I believe art is a bridge that unites everyone no matter the race, beliefs or religion.

Curtis Skinner Returns

Curtis Skinner Returns

Residents were thrilled when Curtis returned to sing songs from the Rat Pack era. There was a lot of swooning as Curtis worked the room, singing to everyone.

Royal Wedding Celebrations

The bunting was up, the flags were out and so were the hats. Residents enjoyed watching the royal wedding in all the lounges. There was a great atmosphere and lots of cheering and even the odd tear here and there.

Ukulele Session

Ukulele Session

We had another wonderful afternoon singing along with the Wadhurst U3A Ukulele Group. You can tell that choir practice has really been paying off. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a chat over coffee and cakes. Mac even had a go at playing!

Time for a Cuppa

Time for a Cuppa

The coffee lounge was buzzing when we were joined by Admiral Nurse, Helen McBryer, to raise awareness and money for Dementia UK. A big thank you to everyone who helped to raise £118 for this great charity. It was lovely to meet Helen and one of the relatives she had supported. Hopefully these coffee mornings will become a regular feature.

We also took the opportunity to present certificates to the winners of the Sport Relief challenges.

Open Day

This year, we celebrated by opening our doors and enjoying a street party in recognition of the Queen's 92nd birthday. The sun was shining as we reminisced over the lovely buffet and remembered street parties gone by.

In the afternoon, we had the first performance of our very own Wadhurst Manor Choir, who sang some good ol' British songs. In between the singing, we were entertained by residents, who sang songs and read poems.

It was a lovely day!
