Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Zoe Aldea

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Zoe and I am the Activities Lead at Wadhurst Manor.

I used to work with veterans for the Royal British Legion, and as an Art Studio Lead for a wonderful charity that built a village for people with learning disabilities.

I believe in the healing power of art, I feel strongly about building confidence and  the wellness of our residents. My hobbies include Asian art and philosophy, acupuncture, yoga and martial arts. I believe art is a bridge that unites everyone no matter the race, beliefs or religion.

Green Canopy

Residents at Wadhurst Manor Care Home in Wadhurst have been branching out in support of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree planting campaign to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) invites the nation to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’ to create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s reign that will benefit future generations.  As well as planting new trees, the QGC will dedicate a network of 70 ancient woodlands across the UK and identify 70 ancient trees to celebrate her 70 years of service.

When residents heard about the initiative, they couldn’t wait to show their support.  There was much debate amongst the residents to decide what type of trees they should plant and where they should go in the garden.  In the end it was agreed that fruit and nut trees, including blackthorn, hazel, crab apple and elder were most apt and that they should go in the care home’s orchard where they can be seen and enjoyed by everyone.

Charitable Giving

Wadhurst Manor care home in Wadhurst recently presented Tunbridge Wells Salvation Army with a massive £721. £365 for the Salvation Army and another for £356 for the work of the Salvation Army Ukraine Crisis

Resident Ambassador Jimmy Hole and his daughter Christine joined Captain Graeme Smith at their weekly Coffee Morning to hand over the money. £365 was raised through the sale of string bags made by Jimmy sold in the home and with the very generous support of BuyTheWeigh in Ticehurst. The residents also agreed they would like £356 raised through raffles and the sale of pom-pom animals and other wool craft made by the residents to go to help work for the Ukraine Crisis

Easter Cake

Residents at Wadhurst Manor thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the Easter Cake Competition. A planning session took place in our coffee Lounge were residents scoured the internet, magazines and cook books for ideas, they liked 2 ideas so decided to combine them. Pictures and recipes were then shown to our 2nd chef who went shopping and prepared all the ingredients for us. Our residents on memory Lane then took over making the sponge and reminiscing about baking. Once the cake was baked and iced it was time to decorate, everyone was delighted with the result. It took pride of place on Easter Sunday and although it looked too good to eat everyone soon tucked in saying it tasted as good as it looked.

Mother's Day

Our residents celebrated this year’s Mother's Day with singer, Debbie Haze. Debbie entertained our residents and staff, in the afternoon, whilst everyone was enjoying a selection of cakes and drinks.
