Activities at Wadhurst Manor Care Home

On a weekly basis we have many visitors to the home from the people like the University of the Third age and local small animal farms, who bring in their chickens and sheep. We also like to go out shopping and on day trips to local garden centres and when the weather is good picnics and tours of the beautiful local countryside. We have speciality days at the home which could be a theme of a country, or for specific times of year, including Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas. We have card games and art classes and a serious knitting team in the home who produce blankets and premature baby clothes for the local maternity unit.

Zoe Aldea

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Zoe and I am the Activities Lead at Wadhurst Manor.

I used to work with veterans for the Royal British Legion, and as an Art Studio Lead for a wonderful charity that built a village for people with learning disabilities.

I believe in the healing power of art, I feel strongly about building confidence and  the wellness of our residents. My hobbies include Asian art and philosophy, acupuncture, yoga and martial arts. I believe art is a bridge that unites everyone no matter the race, beliefs or religion.

The Lady of the Manor

Joan celebrated her 100th birthday in style, surrounded by family and friends, and she is now jokingly referred to as 'The Lady of the Manor'.

Halloween Spooktacular!

Everyone got into the spirit of Halloween for our party; residents and staff dressed up and even the afternoon treats took on a Halloween disguise, with decorated donuts that oozed out blood when people bit into them.

Brainbox Quiz

Residents and loved ones were joined by members of St Augustine’s Church for a Brainbox Quiz. It was a very tightly run thing, with the 6 J’s, who represented the ground floor, winning, closely followed by team Amber, with team JABSY from the ground floor, biting at their heels; The Topaz Toodlers would have tied first if they had just played their Joker on right round – what a shame!

Spa Valley Railway

We had a wonderful visit to Spa Valley Railway as a special birthday treat for resident, Roger. A couple of families joined us, making it really special, especially as Roger's grandchildren were visiting from the States. The staff at Spa Valley were all so friendly and could not do enough to help.

After watching a short film on the history of the Spa Valley Railway, we boarded the steam train and sat in the first class carriages, reminiscing about train rides when we were younger. While the engine was changed round at Groombridge, we enjoyed hot drinks and some birthday cake.

Pumpkin Carving

Volunteer, Amy Smith, Came in to help carve pumpkins in readiness for our Halloween party.  It was an enjoyable afternoon!

25th Anniversary Celebrations

Folks at Wadhurst Manor had lots of fun celebrating 25 years of Barchester. We got into the spirit of the celebrations with a glass of Prosecco to welcome guests; they were then treated to a cabaret-style magic show, performed by Marco the Magician, which was enjoyed by residents, staff and visitors alike. The afternoon concluded with our guests enjoying an excellent buffet supper with residents.
