Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Olde Sweet Shoppe - Wallingford

With the spring sun shining, and rain holding off, we set out in our home minibus to explore an afternoon in Wallingford.

Located down one of the pedestrianised streets we found 'Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe' and it took us right back to those after school days, when we had pocket money to spend.

The shop is filled with every sweet thing you can imagine, from jars full of boiled sweets of every flavour, lollipops and fudges, to homemade chocolates and sugar-free toffees.

All too tempting for us to miss… a quarter of strawberry bonbons and some toffee teacakes please!

Resident Pearl said “I’ve had the best day. A classical concert followed by a visit to a sweet shop in the sunshine, it couldn’t get any better."

King and Rackham Duo - Classical Concert

What a magical day!

Firstly, a musical performance from the King and Rackham Duo.

With a repertoire of light classics, show tunes and film scores from Gershwin to Vivaldi. David King (piano) and Andrew Rackham (violin) entertained our residents as the inhouse hospitality team served homemade cakes, biscuits and mouth-watering fresh fruit.

We enjoyed a wonderful singalong together of ‘all time classics’ as the duo took us down memory lane through their beautiful playing.

Allotment Fox by Simon Watts

Earlier in the week our residents were treated to a personal showing of the remastered ‘Allotment Fox’ presented and narrated by Simon Watts - WILD Presentations.

Filmed on the Hearsall Allotments, Earlsdon, Coventry Simon told us the tale of 6 year old vixen Frankie, her cubs Smudge and Dash, their 'nanny' Whisky and dad Spot.

We were all taken on a journey of discovery and learnt so much about the life of this special urban fox family. They truly are ingenious, beautiful wildlife survivors.

It was fabulous to have a close up view of the many wild animals in our midst, as they secretly search through the allotment plots, throughout the night and even in the day!

Thank you Simon, we loved it, and will be sure to take a closer look around the Waterside gardens to see who we can spot.

Cody Entertains

Our residents started the week with a little rock n’ roll courtesy of the super star solo singer and guitarist – Chris Ody - CODY.

He performed all the classics, with singalong songs from the 50/60s and a dash of glam rock from the 1970s era. Our residents and staff were up singing and dancing throughout his amazing set.

Happy Birthday 'Therese'

Over the weekend we had the pleasure of celebrating beautiful Therese's birthday. She enjoyed a lovely visit from some of her children; her room is now filled with love, gifts, cards and flowers.

Chef made, and iced a homemade cake which Therese adored and shared with her fellow residents during a special afternoon tea.

Happy birthday Therese from all at Waterside Court!
