Activities at Waterside Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Waterside Court Care Home
Happy Burns Night
“Oidhche Bhlas Burns” - Happy Burns Night from all at Waterside Court.
Our residents enjoyed a traditional Burns Night Supper hosted by official Oxford Guild Tour Guide; Magnus MacFarlane and sound tracked by RadioGH the Nation’s station, and home for The Scottish Shindig.
Originating from Scotland, Magnus was magnificent in his portrayal of Robert Burns; poems, jokes and stories. Captivating our residents with the cautionary tale of Tam o' Shanter with exuberance and wit, before giving an ‘Address to the Haggis’ reciting the Burns poem in the Scots dialect theatrically cutting the haggis with his ceremonial knife!
General Manager, Maraya Rabuka, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate the birth of Robert Burns, born on 25 January 1759 with a supper steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of Scotch whisky tasting for afters!
“Our Scottish residents particularly enjoyed seeing Magnus in his traditional dress and singing auld lang syne.”
Everyone loved the Scotch broth, Haggis with neeps and tatties all prepared by our stellar Chef.
We hope you all have a fabulous Burns Night and wish you all "Sláinte Mhath!" - "Good Health!"
Employee of the Month - December 2021
The residents and staff at Waterside Court care home took time to congratulate 2nd Chef; Ladi Smela for being nominated as ‘Employee of the Month’ for December 2021.
Ladi has been outstanding in her support of all departments across the Waterside community, she’ll put her hand to any task to help. She truly is amazing! Loved by her colleagues and our residents.
Our Home Manager, Mararya congratulated Ladi on her achievement, presenting her with a £25 voucher as a special THANK YOU. “Ladi has gone above and beyond, her beautiful smile lights up the home. We all hope this award goes some way towards showing Ladi how valued she is by us all."
Congratulations Ladi, enjoy the accolade and recognition.
Winter Sun Walks
Coats and gloves on to take in a little winter sun was the challenge for today's intrepid few. Our planters needed a little weeding which Maurice pointed out as the ladies took a brisk walk around, deciding on what plants and flowers they’d like to see, plant and grow during spring and the summer months ahead.
If you have any ideas or would like to lend a hand when our gardening club starts up again in March, please feel free to get in touch with our activities coordinator; May. Please email her on Waterside.Activities@barchester.com our residents love meeting new people, and are up for a new gardening project, we have several raised beds for vegetables and herbs we just need a green fingered expert to point us in the right direction.
Game of Quoits
Concentration, skill and dexterity are all needed for this fun game of quoits. Each player takes it in turn to score high. With a little twist of the wrist as he tossed the rope ring, Maurice was today's winner! Well done everyone.
Happy Birthday 'Berti'
What a fabulous day we all had celebrating the birthday of beautiful 'Berti'. She's a much loved member of our Waterside Court community, with a smile for everyone!
Berti is an absolute delight, our afternoon tea was full of giggles as we all gathered together in the dining hall to wish her a very happy 96th birthday (although she definitely doesn't look it!).
Morning Exercises
Resident; Dottie had her lady friendship group up and active with morning chair exercise and dancing, only stopping between tracks for a glass of water to lubricate the joints and boost the body!
