Activities at Westlake House Care Home
Residents enjoy playing hoopla and bocce bowls, which combine exercise with the thrill of competitive sport. We invite entertainers and musicians to visit the home on a regular basis and residents very much enjoy watching them perform.
We also have our pet therapy dog, Marley, visit the home on a fortnightly basis, and residents love petting him. They also enjoy health and fitness days, where they get the opportunity to participate in armchair exercises and target games.
We always celebrate National Volunteer Week, which we use as a chance to say thank you for the wonderful work that our volunteers do that further enhances the quality of life for those who live at Westlake.
As well as continuing with our favourite activities, such as arts & crafts, bingo, knit & natter, Scrabble, board games, bridge, quizzes, pampers & manicures, reminiscence sessions and musical memories, we always like to launch new activities for residents, which give them the opportunity to socialise with their friends and families. These could be our own vegetable patches, flower arranging sessions, a book club or anything else that our imaginations conjure up.
Rosie Duhig
I joined the Barchester family in November 2024 and have instantly felt welcome and supported. As an activity coordinator, I am passionate about getting to know our residents and delivering person-centred care and activities to all residents, an approach supported by a holistic, whole-home view.
I have been in a Care support role since 2019 and an Activity Coordinator since 2020. I love that my role brings laughter and joy to others. It so wonderful seeing people engaging in an activity they enjoy and interacting with each other. I am very passionate about Intergenerational projects, as something magical happens when old and young get together.

Life at Westlake House Care Home
Big Easter Quiz
Westlake joined the other Barchester homes in the division via zoom for a virtual Easter quiz. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Whilst we did not make the top 10 homes, we are very proud that we placed 19 out of 26.
Easter at Westlake
On Friday 2nd April, we had an Easter egg hunt around the home. Staff and residents teamed up to find the most hidden animals around the home and to win prizes of Easter eggs and chocolates.
Fun in the Sun
We made the most of the sunshine in our luxurious gardens with crafts and afternoon tea.
St Patrick and second Vaccine Day.
It was a great day for us at Westlake house. It was second vaccine day AND St Particks day. The staff supplied the residents with a photo booth and hats and even the GP got involved.
It was a real fun day for all.
Saint Patricks day is global celebration of Irish culture marked every year on or around 17th March. It particularly remembers St Patrick who ministered Christianity in Ireland around fifth century.
St Davids Day at Westlake House
We had such a lovely Day. Our home, Westlake House was decorated for St David's Day with the Welsh flag flying as bunting around the home. In the morning several of our residents went out to the garden and picked daffodils for each of our residents to have a bunch of daffs in their room. In the afternoon our Chef and his team made delicious Welsh cakes for both residents and staff. A very happy day was had by all.
Knit and Natter
All welcome at our knitting group. Whether you are an experienced knitter or crocheter or someone taking up knitting for the first time, our group has something for all. Our aim is to make decorations and soft toys for Westlake House for Easter. However, what better way to spend and afternoon than with your friends, having a natter and creating.
