Activities at Wheatlands Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Colouring of the Crows

Residents really enjoyed judging the scarecrow colouring competition. There were approximately 60 entries from our local primary school; 3 from each age group were selected and there were a total of 9 winners. They each won a rosette and a book called 'The Scarecrow's Wedding' by Julia Donaldson.

100th Birthday Celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Wheatlands. Nora Jones was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Martin Hall.

Nora lived in Wombourne for 60 years before coming to Wheatlands, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life.

The birthday girl said she has had a lovely life. Nora was married to her husband, Bob, where they met at a railway station on a bitterly cold day. Bob was in the RAF and was a true gentlemen, giving up his train seat for Nora. They went on to have 77 happy years together where they both enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing (where they won a few medals), and attended church, where Nora liked to read a lesson.

Among the relatives who attended Nora’s celebrations was Robert (Nora’s Son), Pat (her daughter in law), Tara (Nora’s granddaughter) Malcolm (her grandaughters husband), Ben (her great grandson) and also Jason (Nora’s grandson) his wife Alison and their 2 children. Nora also had a visit from neighbour Kathleen where they have been neighbours and friends for 60 years. Nora’s granddaughter Katie who lives in Nottingham also made a trip down to visit Nora a few days ago and sent her a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Nora also has family who live abroad and sent her celebratory wishes, a grandson Christopher who lives in USA with his wife and daughter Olivia. Nora also wished to mention her Grandson Mark who was married to a Russian girl called Marina.  Nora said she had a wonderful day for her Birthday and everyone was so kind and caring.

Virtual Dance Show

Residents enjoyed a virtual dance and singalong with the local primary school children.
