Activities at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Lauren

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Lauren, and I am one of the Activities Coordinators here at Woodhorn Park.

My job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. I want to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our minibus as we create new, special memories together.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Woodhorn Park Care Home

The Holly & the Ivy

Staff and residents across our homes were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-inspired table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.

Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers.  She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.

During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Christmas-themed table decorations.

The Wallace Collection

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.

Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.

Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!

Autumn crafts/wreath making

Residents enjoyed a fun filled afternoon making Autumn Wreaths this October.

They used their creativity to craft some lovely wreaths for a display at our harvest festival.

We enjoyed using the different colours of the leaves and reminiscing about our younger years as the seasons would change.

World Mental Health Day

Here at Woodhorn Park, our residents enjoyed a variety of sessions, including relaxation, sensory sessions and chats with staff to support mental health.

Residents took to making Worry Worms as part of a knitting session which will be displayed in the home for charity.

Some of our residents gathered together to share their advice and thoughts for staying positive and the importance of positive thinking, which was a great success.

World Card Making Day

Today we celebrated World Card Making Day with fun-filled activities and themed sessions.

Our residents spent the day making, decorating and writing cards to their loved ones.

Everyone was encouraged to work on their skills, some residents preferred  to write short poems or creative texts.

It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all and all the cards turned out beautifully.

Fly me to the moon

Residents and staff enjoyed a group activity to explore space with their virtual space reality trip using our VR headset.

Residents were transported to space visiting planets from Mars and Jupiter and following their moonlight trip residents enjoyed tasty treats such as ‘moon’ shaped cheese, space rock candy and flying saucers.  It was a fun filled afternoon!
