Activites at Woodhorn Park Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities make up the most important part of all our days at Woodhorn park, so we ensure a variety of social events are available that reflect the interests of all the people we support. In our Memory Lane community, we have group conversations and regularly reminiscence about past experiences, which is something that people living with dementia really enjoy. Many residents love gardening, baking, outings, pet care and gentle exercise, which we provide, along with many other wholesome activities, as it is essential that life at Woodhorn Park is fun and active.

Lauren

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Lauren, and I am one of the Activities Coordinators here at Woodhorn Park.

My job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. I want to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our minibus as we create new, special memories together.

VE 80th celebrations

Woodhorn Park marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember.

The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed an afternoon of music and dancing. Head chef Bob whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, sandwiches, cakes and pastries for the occasion.

National Beer Day!

National Beer Day!

We had a fun-filled day as we raised a glass and tasted top ales in recognition of National Beer Day.
Our residents enjoyed a mini-beer festival and got involved in a variety of engaging activities.

Some of our residents spent time learning about craft brewing and the history of beer; others preferred to attend the beer tasting session and try beers from all around the world. It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Pancake Day!

Pancake Day!

We were busy celebrating Pancake Day, also known as Shove Tuesday, with a variety of delicious pancakes and yummy toppings. Our residents had a wonderful day, filled with pancake-inspired activities. They prepared homemade pancakes and decorated them with bananas, syrup and chocolate.

We watched some hilarious pancake races and some of our residents reminisced about childhood memories and making pancakes for their own children. It was a fun day, enjoyed by all.

Celebrating Crufts!

Celebrating Crufts!

This week, our residents have been enjoying all things Crufts - the world’s greatest dog show! From watching incredible agility displays to reminiscing about their own pets, it’s been a wonderful time for all.

We even hosted our very own dog show; residents named us Woodhorn Wags. We had visits from some special four-legged friends to do tricks, have cuddles and win a prize. Homemade rosettes and treats were given to the prize winners. These brought joy and smiles to everyone!

Valentine's Day Celebrations!

Our home was filled with flowers and cards as we celebrated the day of love with sweet treats and thoughtful gifts to the sound of classic songs.

We marked the occasion by starting with a Valentine's craft morning, followed by us hosting our residents a Valentine’s afternoon tea. We enjoyed sweet teats, sandwiches and tea and coffee. This was enjoyed by all along with love songs serenading us while we ate and chatted amongst our tables.

It was a beautiful day and heart-warming to see everyone come together to celebrate.

Happy Birthday Elvis!

Today we celebrated what would have been the King of Rock & Roll’s birthday.

It’s estimated Elvis sold over one billion records worldwide, so we enjoyed a day of music, fun and dancing in his honour and found out some interesting facts about him too.

Residents then enjoyed a movie about how Elvis became the king of rock and roll on our cinema screen and enjoyed snacks and refreshments.
