Staff and residents at Barchester’s Canmore Lodge Care Home in Dunfermline are over the moon because their much-loved General Manager, Jane Aitken, has reached the North East Regional final of the Great British Care Awards 2022. She has been shortlisted in the prestigious General Manager of the Year category.
The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
Jane started out her career as a nurse in 2006 and moved into management around 10 years ago. She joined Barchester in 2016 first at Strachan House in Edinburgh before transferring across to Canmore Lodge in Dunfermline. Jane says her biggest motivation is seeing her residents smiling and living well, she loves being able to make life better both for her residents and her teams.
Speaking about being short-listed, Jane says: “It was a complete surprise, I didn’t even know I had been nominated! I am so lucky to have a great team of people working alongside me, everyone works hard to deliver excellent care to our wonderful residents. I am a fixer and I love to make things better for our residents, their loved ones and our fantastic staff – I find it so satisfying to know I have made a difference and put a smile on someone’s face, it is the best feeling in the world.”
Barchester Healthcare’s CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, comments: “This nomination is very well deserved. Jane is an excellent General Manager and has a brilliant team at Canmore Lodge. Jane is exceptionally hard-working and dedicated to her residents and her team. I am incredibly proud of everyone at Canmore Lodge.”
