Barchester homes wish the Queen a happy 90th birthday!
From tea parties to ponies in tiaras, staff and residents at Barchester homes throughout Her Majesty’s kingdom have been enjoying splendid celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Residents at Forest Hill in Worksop enjoyed a war-time sing-a-long before toasting to the Queen, while North Park Care Home in Darlington celebrated with a spot of animal therapy and welcomed a pony in a tiara to the home!
Many people living in Barchester homes remember the Queen’s coronation vividly and reminiscing about the Queen’s life brought back many of their own fond memories.
One lady who lives at Lucerne House Care Centre in Exeter said: “It's great to see the Queen looking so well. I remember watching her coronation in 1952. We all rallied around a friend of ours Television to catch a glimpse of the ceremony. She has been a great figure-head for the country. I myself am 93 years old so I have a few years on her still. It's nice to see all those people waving their flags and wishing her well today.”
Another person who lives at Lucerne House said: “I went to the coronation and stood on the streets of London to watch it, flag in hand with my friends around me. I think she has done an excellent job as the Queen and can't believe she is 90 already. “
Meanwhile, at Tennyson Wharf Care Home in Lincolnshire staff and residents took celebrations to another level and had a full day of activities, starting off with a talk about the royal family in the morning and a quiz about the Queen’s life, which sparked much reminiscence and conversation.
Pamela Smith, who lives at Tennyson Wharf said: “I have enjoyed the quiz about the royal family very much remembering her life. I also enjoyed making table decorations with red, white and blue paper flowers yesterday for the Queen’s birthday today. It really has got us all in the mood for her birthday.
“We had a pampering afternoon also which everyone enjoyed and luckily for me I won a prize so it was a great end to the day!”
She added: “I would like to personally wish the Queen a very happy birthday.”
