Barchester nurse shortlisted for Rising Star Award
A Barchester nurse is through to the final stages of the Nursing Times Awards 2015 in the Rising Star category.
Fernando Castillo is an RGN at Queens Court Care Home in Wimbledon, where he has worked for 4 years. Originally from the Philippines, he joined the home as an RGN in 2011 and soon became a charge nurse, thanks to his nursing skill and commitment to excellent care.
The prestigious Nursing Times Awards are organised by Nursing Times magazine and award excellence and innovation in the nursing profession.
Fernando Castillo said: “I was surprised about being shortlisted for this award from the Nursing Times. I didn't even know who nominated me and why was I nominated. However, I do appreciate the recognition and it's nice to give honour to the company who has helped me a lot in my career. I'm also pleased that the company is also shortlisted for the Team of the Year award which says a lot about the kind of people we're working with in Barchester.”
Shaaron Caratella, General Manager at Queens Court Care Homesaid: “We are all so proud of Fernando for reaching this stage of the competition and hope he goes all the way! I nominated him because he always works with a personal standard of striving for excellence. He has even created a learning programme for student nurses from City University and Kingston University. He really cares for his staff, relatives and residents.
Judging will take place in September and the awards ceremony will be held in November.
