Local heroes unveil new Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home
Care home staff and over 150 guests, including recent Big Brother runner up Councillor Joel Williams, were delighted when representatives from the Royal Gwent Hospital League of Friends officially opened Newport's newest care facility, Barchester Healthcare’s Bryn Ivor Lodge Care Home, on 22nd July.
Rachel Morgan, a current volunteer and former Trustee for The League of Friends, addressed guests before unveiling a commemorative plaque, formally opening the home. Rachel was also pleased to be presented with a cheque for £500 which Bryn Ivor Lodge donated to the charity who had been nominated as the ‘Local Heroes’ by members of the community.
Rachel was thrilled to be asked to open the home and said, ‘I am really overwhelmed with the day, it’s been so lovely and everyone has been so welcoming.’
The event was a lively celebration, with music from The Gershwin Gang jazz quartet and a patriotic performance from Welsh chorus, The Minnesingers who roused the crowd with Welsh Language favourites including Calon Lan and The Welsh National Anthem which got guests singing along proudly. The home's friendly hospitality team provided a champagne reception and a selection of delicious canapés cooked by the home's talented new Chef and his team.
The home's General Manager, Helen Randall delivered a speech about her view for the future being first-class quality care and putting the residents at the heart of everything they do. Barchester Healthcare's CEO Dr Pete Calveley spoke of how impressed he was with the completed building and the warm welcome given by the team.
The first residents will be moving into Bryn Ivor Lodge over the next few weeks. The 80-bed home provides top-quality nursing, residential and respite care, as well as specialist dementia care in their Memory Lane Community.
Helen Randall,General Manager at Bryn Ivor Lodge said: “We are all very excited about the opening of Bryn Ivor Lodge and we have had a fantastic day full of music and celebration!
