What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My father has been a resident at Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home for several years now, with severe dementia. During that time, the care he has had from the staff and management has been outstanding. From the moment he first arrived until now, the team have cared for him in such a way I have never had to doubt his welfare needs are taken care of, which gives me great comfort. It hasn't been inexpensive but what price peace of mind is where my lovely dad is concerned? Thank you."

"Having seen the care and support that has been given to my mother since she just came to Adlington Manor on 29th November 2017, it is amazing to see what dedicated and professional staff can do for residents! My mother has been treated both medically and care needs, with the utmost attention to detail, resulting in a very improved quality of life for my mother (all round excellent)."

"On every occasion I attended the staff were very helpful, attentive, and answered any questions completely. My wife had very good care and when she died they were sympathetic, very caring and extremely helpful."

"All the staff are kind, polite, efficient. The manager, carers, nurses, activity lady, cleaning staff cooks, maintenance staff and gardener we cannot fault them. The food is excellent, although I do feel older people do not need two hot meals a day. A lighter tea would be more suitable. The cleaning ladies always keep the rooms nice and clean, tidy and smelling sweet. My husband has just had his room refurbished and is lovely. I am sure all the rest of the building will be the same when refurbishment is completed."

"Having experience of other care homes in the East Cheshire area, I can compare and say with confidence that Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is the best and offer excellent care."

"When looking for a care home for my mother Adlington Manor was recommended to me. From my very first visit we were made very welcome by every member of staff that we met. Mum was subsequently visited by the deputy manager in hospital and it was agreed that mum would be able to be transferred as quickly as possible. The care we as a family have witnessed has been excellent, and we have no hesitation in recommending Adlington Manor to anyone having to make the decision to put their relatives into their care."

"The home is currently run by excellent management and key staff. Most of the carers have a proactive attitude to the residents who in many cases are very challenging. The whole fabric of the building has been significantly upgraded during the past 12 months and is still ongoing."

"We had almost despaired at finding the right care home for our 95-year old mother after a hip operation left her virtually immobile. Then a friend suggested we take a look at Adlington Manor. We turned up unannounced at a weekend, but nonetheless were made welcome and given a thorough introduction by a member of the team and we knew immediately we’d found the right place. Not only is Adlington beautifully situated, with the feel of a country hotel (the home has recently been refurbished throughout), but the level of professional care and kindness Mum is now receiving is everything we had hoped for and delivered by a proactive and willing team who are approachable at every level. After ten days at Adlington, Mum has regained her dignity and begun recovering physically too from the debilitating effect of a long stay in hospital. So a huge weight has been taken off our minds, we have no doubt that we made the right choice and we have no hesitation in recommending to others."

"I would like to praise the staff in the Rowan Suite, especially the Head of the Unit. The care, respect and kindness given to my mother during her short stay at the end of her life was outstanding. In addition, they helped and supported all the family at a very difficult time with care, time and concern."

"Easily the best care home in the area. I've visited many homes searching for a possible permanent care home for my mum. Adlington Manor is easily the best I can find. My mum has been here for about three months now and I've found that the staff are really lovely, kind and so patient. The rooms are large and each has a full ensuite including toilet and shower. There are nice gardens which are wheelchair friendly and several places to sit out together with conservatories too. The food looked good and there is a nice coffee lounge with fresh tea, coffee and cake available all day."

"I live some distance away and sadly cannot visit as often as I would like to. It is a great comfort to me that my father is being so well looked after by the amazing, kind and caring staff at Adlington Manor. He is happy and settled there and when I have to leave I know he is in good hands!"

"Barchester Adlington is a first-class Care Home. The staff are excellent and look after the residents well. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable. The only downside is the cost of the monthly rent as we are paying the full charge, but at least we know my wife is comfortable here."

"Mum has been in Adlington Manor since November 2016. When she first arrived, we didn't think she would be with us for long but has made an amazing recovery. The care from the majority of the care team has been very good in difficult circumstances (she can be challenging and not accepting of help at times). She finds weekends challenging as some agency staff aren't as understanding of her needs but we are able to talk to the management team frankly about this."

"My Mum stayed for several weeks at Adlington Manor as part of her intermediate care, prior to returning home. I cannot thank the staff for their care, kindness and genuine interest in my Mum. For example, on her birthday, I was able to join Mum for lunch at an area set aside for us. The nursing staff were quick to identify a chest infection and sought medical help quickly. There is a super range of daily activities available as well as regular entertainment. The whole care home is run extremely well by a general manager who is accessible and knowledgeable."

"Myself and my family are so pleased that my wife their mum has settled in at Adlington, she has challenging behaviour so is on a one to one but the staff manage her really well. My wife has been treated with dignity also so with her being so young gets pampered quite often. All of the staff are all lovely to get on with have time to listen to any concerns."

"While my husband has been in Adlington Manor he has been well looked after and has always been treated with respect which gives me peace of mind. I couldn't wish for a better care home. The manager and staff are very welcoming and always make me feel part of the family. May this continue."

"I am extremely happy with the nursing care my mother-in-law is receiving in Adlington Manor. The staff are very caring and pleasant and led by an excellent management team - who are always approachable and on hand. The food is nutritious and prepared by an excellent chef and team ensuring the residents enjoy their chosen meals."

"Very happy with the care my mother receives. It is extremely important for me to feel that she is secure and safe. I can sleep at night knowing she is in caring hands and she is being fed a balanced diet. Management is excellent with good communication on all matters. Thank you and my compliments to the chef."

"My husband was diagnosed with vascular cerebral dementia. After breaking his leg in hospital, I could no longer manage at home. By chance, at my wit's end, I visited Adlington Manor Care Home. The general manager welcomed me with open arms. In due course, my husband in June 2017, joined the care home family. Every member of staff took great care of him encouraged him and joked with him. His family were always as part of the home family. I never heard staff say "no" to my husband. They always managed to run a situation around as if he did it himself - that takes skill. Sadly my husband died on 3rd April 2018, cared for by the staff with care and reverence to the end, just as I had wished. I cannot thank the general manager enough or her staff for their love, care and attention. I have tried but I cannot find enough words to express my gratitude. Barchester should be very very proud of Adlington Manor Care Home and of the people who run it so well."

"The care given is exemplary. I have visited at various times throughout the day and nothing but extreme kindness and patience is displayed to all residents. The home is beautifully kept, making my mother-in-law's stay, albeit for short respite, very comfortable and one where we have peace of mind. Thank you."

The home has a very friendly atmosphere and provides a good variety of activities for those able to participate."

"My mother-in-law came here in June from hospital. She was very frail and for a number of weeks, she was in bed. Although she has lost weight she is now up each day and is eating much better. It's nice to see her amongst other people. We are satisfied she is well cared for."

"The professionalism, care and kindness shown to our mother over the 3 years she was resident before she passed away was outstanding. The dementia ward turned Mum's life around. The staff go her to wash and eat regularly, and to sleep in a bed again. Mum was treated as an individual and the staff brought out the best in her in the circumstances, they were phased by nothing that she did."

"My mother was referred by NHS to Adlington Manor following an operation and for 'intermediary care'. She had very limited mobility. Her given room was dark with no ensuite facilities and some distance from the bathroom. Only an open commode was provided! The lift from 1st floor was inadequate for wheelchair use and dirty (dead insects in glass as lift moved). Unfortunately, the majority of residents appeared highly dependent, both physically and mentally - thus little stimulating activity or entertainment. On a positive note - the staff did their best and were pleasant and helpful. After 2 weeks we moved my mother to a more pleasant environment."

"My mother was placed here following a fall and replacement hip operation. She received excellent care from friendly and helpful staff, with physiotherapy every day to help her regain mobility. She enjoyed the food and activities and problems with her delicate skin were dealt with promptly by the nursing staff. All in all, a good experience."

"My mother's stay at Adlington was superb - the staff were absolutely first class and cared for her every need. The home was always very clean and well maintained and there were plenty of different areas to sit and spend the day. Food was also excellent. Would definitely use for further respite care if needed."

"Our relative received excellent care from diligent. Lovely staff. Initially, she was reluctant to leave her room and staff respecting her autonomy, did not force her but latterly, she was always out of her room when we visited. Our relative told us she felt "very looked after and comfortable", "everyone is very kind". We saw staff interacting with residents in a friendly and encouraging manner. The home was well run and the manager was easily accessible and always willing to talk. She knew all the residents."

"My father entered the home directly from hospital eleven days ago so was only in the home for a very short time before he died last night. He had dementia and wasn't able to do anything for himself but was treated with respect and dignity during his short stay. Our family felt very comfortable coming and going at any time and we got to know a few of the people that took charge of Dad's care."

"My husband passed away on the 23/09/19. He was frail when he arrived at Adlington Manor Care Home 6 months ago but the staff did well to help and support him over the 6 months he was with them. He had a wonderful 80th birthday party in August 2019 and thanks to the manager for allowing us to do that. Those carers were so good to my husband and myself. Thank them so much for everything."

"After a 4 week spell in hospital, my father had lost a considerable amount of weight and was showing signs of confusion not previously experienced. He was discharged from hospital for intermediate care at Adlington Manor, with a view to building up his strength and general rehabilitation to ensure he could return home safely. On the day of his arrival, my Dad was very distressed and agitated, but the staff were kind and patient throughout a very difficult 'Covid' period of lockdown. After 3 weeks, my Dad was strong enough to return home. The staff were always courteous and kind with us as his family and arranged regular Skype calls with Dad as we couldn't visit. In summary, the staff were an absolute credit to their profession and I would highly recommend Adlington Manor for any families looking for care facilities for loved ones."

"The care residents receive in the Rowan unit at Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is excellent. Staff always strive to ensure the best outcome for residents. The only area for improvement that I would highlight is the furniture in the lounge, especially the sofas. Inevitable these receive constant use and abuse from residents. Currently, these are far past their best, with one even having lost its seat cushions, having two odd ones covered in a blanket."

"We were accommodated at short notice for a week's respite stay for our mum. She was quickly welcomed into the body of staff and introduced to fellow residents. Any incidents that occurred during her stay were reported to us immediately. The standard of care was very good and Mum developed a particular bond with a certain member of staff who has been extremely attentive to Mum, but very understanding of our needs as we used this type of service for the first time. Would definitely recommend and will be reusing this service provided."

"From the minute my mum arrived, she has been well taken care of and her interests considered. Staff have taken time to get to know my mum. They often have a joke with her and the other residents. It is nearly always a calm environment, and the staff are thoughtful and diligent. I completely trust the team to put her health first, ensuring she has all her medication. I am always told if she is unwell and what course of action will be taken. I can't recommend them highly enough."

"My lovely Dad had the misfortune of being a resident at Adlington Manor in October 2023. Dad had complex health needs alongside dementia. Despite this, we were assured he could be managed and would be well cared for. From the start, it was clear this wasn’t going to happen. Dad was constantly having falls, and multiple head injuries and at one point managed to pull a bookcase on top of himself. He would call us all the time distressed, most frequent during the night. Staff seemed to need a family member constantly present to manage him and were clearly unable to provide adequate supervision. Senior staff stopped and started his medication believing themselves more knowledgeable than consultant neurologists. Finally, after 2 weeks staff called an ambulance one Friday night, prepared to send a vulnerable man to an A&E department miles from his home. We then put Dad in a fold-up wheelchair and drove him home. The staff allowed this to happen despite Dad being on a DOLs. Please avoid this home."

"Although the decision to transfer my husband to this care home was made by the hospital, without my agreement, I am glad to say that I am very pleased with the care he has received over the last three months. The nurses, care workers, manager and all the other members of staff I have spoken to are friendly, kind and willing to do all they can to make my husband's life safe and contented. It is a very welcoming environment, visiting is encouraged and both facilities and meals are excellent. All his visitors, friends and family, have been very impressed by his new home."

"Adlington Manor Nursing Home's Rowan Unit is a truly exceptional facility. My friend resides in the Rowan Unit and I must say, they are very well taken care of. The residents in this unit are always happy, engaged in activities, and receive the highest level of care. I have personally witnessed the incredible job that the senior nurse and unit manager are doing. Their leadership and dedication to the residents are truly remarkable. They ensure that each resident is treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. The residents have formed a strong bond with the staff and it is evident that they are well-loved and well-cared for. Overall, I highly recommend Adlington Manor Nursing Home's Rowan Unit for anyone looking for a caring and supportive environment for their loved one. The staff's dedication, compassion, and leadership make it a top-notch facility for seniors in need of quality care."

The food and presentation are absolutely top-notch which is so important when caring for people who don't always have the best appetite."

"Excellent manager, finger on the pulse, kind to residents and staff. I could not single out any member of staff for being excellent as they are all lovely, caring people who do a wonderful job. To me, they are very special people. Regarding food - Mum eats very little and the staff are always willing to provide alternative meals, should she not want what is on offer. The roast dinners are beautiful. Regarding value for money - (no reflection on staff) more than willing to discuss with Barchester "owners"> Of course, Mum would rather be in her own home but realises it is no longer possible. She tells me that, in light of her bungalow no longer being an option, Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is the next best place which is great news and peace of mind."

"Very disappointed with the whole experience. My mother-in-law's stay here was for 3 months before we were able to secure a new bed for her elsewhere. She was discharged from the hospital to help with her dementia related needs. From the very beginning we were dissatisfied with the level of care she was given, repeated falls from her bed didn't seem to concern them, despite being on a no solid food plan, inappropriate meals were left in her room on a daily basis, no assistance was given to eat, her hygiene was neglected throughout her whole stay. As a family we attempted to engage with the home on multiple occasions, the management team were largely disinterested, bland promises which were unfulfilled and multiple excuses for failings in care. We didn't see any proactive responses during her whole stay. The premises are lovely, but the staff seemed largely disinterested in providing care for the individuals."
